Citing bailout, union wants to organize bank workers (SEIU)
Source: CNN

(CNN) -- The powerful Service Employees International Union has decided that, because of the $700 billion financial-system bailout, it wants to organize bank workers.

In an e-mail dated November 12 and obtained exclusively by CNN, a member of SEIU's Private Equity Project outlined initial discussions to organize bank workers "since the banking industry is now being infused with billions of taxpayer dollars."

The banks we're most concerned about are:

-- Fannie Mae
-- Freddie Mac
-- Chevy Chase/B.F.Saul
-- BB&T
-- SunTrust
-- Bank of America/Countrywide
-- Wachovia/Wells Fargo
-- PNC Bank/National City
-- Citigroup

Skippings referred questions to a union spokeswoman, who confirmed the authenticity of the e-mail and that the union is considering targeting the banks for unionizing.

"Low-wage earners are the growing sector of the work force," said Gregory DeFreitas, an economics professor at Hofstra University and director of its labor studies program. "This is a very shrewd political move to tie this to the bailouts."

2. That'd be right and only fair
and perhaps the only thing to slow the fatcats down from stealing everything else they haven't done so far, right down to our drawers.

And I'd have to say be sure to include IT in the representation as well. We're never represented and we're always the first to get screwed. Whenever the folks on the upper floors screw up, it's always IT that takes it in the shorts first. Take us allllllll in under representation.

4. YES GO UNION
As a retired Union person I said years ago the unions will be back bigger and stronger than ever. Regans ideas are going into the grave with him. Now the folks need to get rid of that scum ball Shelbie from Al i think it is. The bible slammers aren't smart enough to understand that it is unions that have gotten us this far. We can sure see what happens wen we let the republicans in charge.. Not good for the working person. The thumpers will awaken wen the collection plate is MT an that is not Montana

6. I am appalled at the way
the Republicans can so easily dismiss the middle class and the
poor. The only way to stop those greedy bastards from taking
the whole world down is to put unions and other safety nets in
place for those of us who work for a living.

Another song for us workers....especially those of us who need
jobs.
