Rice: Clinton will be 'terrific' secretary of state

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Sunday that she believes Sen. Hillary Clinton will "do a great job" as secretary of state.

In an interview with CNN, Rice also addressed President-elect Barack Obama's victory, saying she believes Americans were "wise in wanting change."

Speaking to CNN's "Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer," Rice said she has spoken with Clinton since Obama named the former first lady as his pick to be the nation's top diplomat.

"I talked with her and we're going to sit down, and I'm really looking forward to it. I've known her a long time and she is someone that I admire."

I refuse to allow reaction to Republican comments to have any role in shaping my opinions. Better off to ignore the jerks. Anyway, I think the grand symbolism of appointing Hillary far outweighs any specific probems people might have with her. Give her one thing--she's a highly competent, intelligent woman. And maybe a little bit--well, mercenary, meaning that her opinions aren't set in stone. I think she was super-pro-Israeli when she thought there was political advantage in it, and will be more moderate when Barack wants that. Don't judge her by where she's been or what she's done when playing on other teams. Judge her by what she can do and where she can go when playing on this one.

Obama has yet to dissuade me of his political genius, and has yet to really disappoint me with a position. I think he's capable of shaping himself to reality, and doing what it takes to get the best outcome, regardless of feints to the right or left.

If she dissed Hillary, we'd ignore her, why not do the same when she praises Senator Clinton? Rice's opinion is worthless one way or the other.
