Unemployment jumps to 8.2 percent
California's economic climate continues to deteriorate as the unemployment rate in the state jumped another one-half of a percentage point to 8.2 percent in October, according to the state's unemployment division.

The state lost 26,400 nonfarm payroll jobs in the month, according to the California Employment Development Department.

The state has the third highest unemployment rate in the nation. From October 2007 to October 2008, California lost a total 101,300 jobs, the report estimates.

1. That's going to get nasty in California.
I was just cruising over at the BLS.gov site seeing what the other stats are. Interesting and concerning how quickly some places have jumped. Here in Oregon, unemployment jumped almost a full percentage point from September to October of this year!

10. What do you think its really like..
Anyone who does have a job, is most likely just hanging on.. I don't know anyone who has had any real increases in their pay checks.. If its a raise, it doesn't actually pay for the real increase in costs of living... Credit cards are spent. Bills are due. I think we are in a real depression in America.. It may not look like that in the numbers, but the reality is that its a depression. When people are barely squeeking by, what do they think we can do? What kind of products are we supposed to continue buying? Its time to increase wages to cover costs.

11. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the real unemployment number is 11.8%
If you want to get a closer look at US unemployment "real" numbers, you need to look at the U6 instead of the U3 (which leaves out a lot of different types of unemployed Americans).

Our own lying, cheating, stealing government is reporting we have an 11.8% unemployment number and most people don't look at it. But if they are reporting 11.8% what is the real number? Because even the U6 leaves out Americans we traditionally consider in unemployment numbers.

13. ONLY WAY OUT OF A DEPRESSION
1. Nationalize all the banks, energy, automobile, construction, and medical industries
2. Enact immediate maximum wage laws
3. Enact immediate tax hikes on the rich, and make them file QUARTERLY
4. Enact immediate corporate tax hikes on windfall profits (MONTHLY, not quarterly)
5. Create public sector jobs on an immediate basis
6. Cut military budegets by at least 25%
7. Raise minimum wage, immediately, to $10 hour.
8. Increase the number of jobs that qualify for living wage ($15-$18/hour)
9. Defer all college payments until after graduation.
10. Increase the gasoline tax for luxury cars, private jets, first class tickets, and limos.

That's a start, but if those steps are fully implemented, the economy would be stablized in a year. The ONLY losers would be the right wing corporate whores.

17. I doubt that...the media has EVERY INCENTIVE...
...to report the truth this time around. The fact is, tax increases on the rich DO resonate with people, and most people think that defense measures are way overwhelming.

The bottom line is that the media will actually be on OUR side this time, properly reporting the facts to the people. They helped get our guy elected, and we should expect total confidence in the media that they will not affect our progressive agenda. After all, we have the Fairness Doctrine that we can threaten them with if they get out of line.
