Laid-Off Man Shoots Three Co-Workers at Office (Silicon Valley)
Source: NBC Bay Area

Santa Clara police said Friday that a man who had just been laid off from his workplace had shot and killed three of his co-workers.

Police said that Jing Wu, 47, of Mountain View, shot and killed one woman and two men inside the office building. Police had not identified where the four people worked.

Detectives said the shooter was described by witnesses as an Asian man. Officers said they believed the man to be on the loose, and no longer in the building. Several police vehicles were on the scene.

1. Oh no. This is horrible. And I guess we can expect to see more
reports of tragedies like this as more people are laid off. Employees, when laid off, need assistance so they don't become hopeless and desperate, or angry at the wrong people.

3. Nice.
We are due for layoffs on Tuesday. I've noticed the magazines in the cafeteria which where donated by some fucking gun nut (S.W.A.T.). So I think if this person is laid off and is able to gain access, we are basically toast. Me, especially, since I am right by the entrance.

8. when I was about 22 (the Regan years) my father explained the difference
between recession and depression:

'when you neighbor is out of work it is a recession. when YOU are out of work, THAT is depression.' ( he was being clever)

I think most republicans look at it the same way as a reality.

9. With blathering idiocy such as this, I am thrilled to be on your Ignore list.
CEOs don't lay off anyone.

In the real world (which you are so obviously disassociated - management handles that sort of thing) things are handled differently

18. You're right - managers do the shooting. CEOs "merely" say how many they must shoot.
And sometimes the manager who has to deliver the bad news is not even involved in the choosing.

14. I probably shouldn't even mention this now, but ...
... Police have just identified the company CEO as one of the victims.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/11/14/MNC51451UE.DTL&tsp=1

... In an interview not long after the shooting, Asha Agrawal, wife of SiPort CEO Sid Agrawal, said she hadn't been able to reach her husband and was trying to find out if he was safe.

"My friend is waiting there, but he cannot find out anything," she said.

Police identified Sid Agrawal as one of the victims at about 9:30 p.m. They did not immediately release the names of the other two victims, saying they are still trying to reach next of kin.
