Muslim clerics endorse anti-terror fatwa

UPI
Published: Nov. 8, 2008 at 9:57 PM

HYDERABAD, India, -- About 6,000 Muslim clerics from around India approved a fatwa against terrorism Saturday at a conference in Hyderabad. Maulana Qari Mohammad Usman Mansoorpuri, president of the Jamaiat-Ulama-i-Hind, called terrorism the most serious problem facing Islam, The Hindu reported.

He blamed Islamic radicals for their actions and the news media for failing to distinguish between the radicals and the majority of Muslims. "We have no love for offenders whichever religion they might belong to," he said. "Our concern is that innocents should not be targeted and the career of educated youth not ruined. The government should ensure transparency in investigation."

India has the world's second-largest Muslim population after Indonesia, although Hindus outnumber Muslims. The meeting was also expected to address issues like national integration.

"Islam rejects all kinds of unjust violence, breach of peace, bloodshed, murder and plunder and does not allow it in any form. Cooperation should be done for the cause of good but not for committing sin or oppression," the fatwa written at the Darul Uloom Deoband, India's foremost Islamic seminary.

DOES affect the world and DOES effect what people do. Have you been underground for the past 8 years? I did not say that Indian politics revolved around US elections.

3. 99.9% of Muslims reject extreme Islamic ideals and violence.
However, that leaves 0.1%, which when counting one billion Muslims, still leaves about a million Muslims that are violent.

I agree that the world media, not just the MSM in the U.S., tends to focus on that million, instead of the 999 million that are peaceful and tolerant.

7. Considering the havoc that just a handful of those million....
..have wreck upon the world, we do well to focus on them. As much as possible. And as far as I can recall, I've not heard any group of Muslim clerics speak out against "terrorism" like this before. Not, and naming it as such. If I'm wrong, I'll stand corrected.

Essentially, it is the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wahabbi ">Wahabbi Muslims, and those who follow and adhere to Sharia-law who maintain our interest because they are the literalists of their faith. Think, Pat Robertson, John Hagee and James Dobson with armies and suicidal followers willing to die for their cause. Whabbists believe exactly what it says in their book. Explicitly.

Unlike Judasim and Christianity who've learn to curb "most" of their least tasteful dictates and edicts, Whabbists and Sharia-law followers see curtailment of their right to kill infidels and bring the whole world under Muslim domination as apostasy. I know that we've had some American Muslim individuals, and other religious outreach groups who've argued for peaceful solutions, but until now there's been little unanimity among the international Muslim groups of clerics. Except when someone in the West draws a cartoon they don't like.

- Now that, they can all come together and get behind...

"Today, a group of non-violent Muslims stormed the U.S. Embassy in Tehran and cleaned all the windows, pulled all the weeds in the garden and... wait... I'm getting an update... sorry, that was this morning's work crew, and they didn't storm the embassy, they were actually invited in... as it now appears they are every weekday morning. Back to you, Wolf."

20. That's simply not true. Even in western countries like England...
5%-10% if Muslims are sympathetic to terrorism and terroristic acts. It's obviously MUCH MUCH higher in the ME.

Please don't just invent statitstics and state them as facts. It's bullshit, and it's people like you who give internet such a poor reputation as a reliable source.

12. This is good...
...and would be even better if the youth of Islam was taught to love life for Allah, instead of being taught to die for Allah...religion has no geographic boundaries...and the continued teachings of Radical Islam makes no distinction between liberal and conservative enemies...and the world will never see peace while Radical Islam is ignored...whatever the reason for doing so...this is a good thing...I hope we see more of this.

15. India ? "clerics from around India" ? Are "Indians" getting uppity on the reservations ?
maybe they sense the 'indians' are ready to go on the war path. What do they know and when did they know it ?

India has the world's second-largest Muslim population after Indonesia

How many converts will they win spreading that fatwa news further east.

Indonesia executes three Bali bombers by firing squad

SEEN AS MARTYRS?

Australia immediately issued a new travel warning for its citizens going to Indonesia.

"You should exercise great care, particularly around locations that have a low level of protective security, including where Western tourists gather such as beaches, bars, malls and other venues," the warning said.

Although new attacks targeting bars and tourist hangouts were certainly possible, JI's network was fractured and sympathy for the bombers was low, said one leading Australian analyst.

"There will be some people in Indonesian society who regard them as martyrs, but they will be a very small proportion," said Damien Kingsbury, an associate professor at Deakin University.
