Anger Is Crowd's Overarching Emotion at McCain Rally
Edited on Thu Oct-09-08 09:53 PM by DogPoundPup
Source: Washington Post

WAUKESHA, Wis., Oct. 9 -- There were shouts of "Nobama" and "Socialist" at the mention of the Democratic presidential nominee. There were boos, middle fingers turned up and thumbs turned down as a media caravan moved through the crowd Thursday for a midday town hall gathering featuring John McCain and Sarah Palin.

"It is absolutely vital that you take it to Obama, that you hit him where it hits, there's a soft spot," said James T. Harris, a local radio talk show host, who urged the Republican nominee to use Barack Obama's controversial former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., and others against him.

"We have the good Reverend Wright. We have Pfleger. We have all of these shady characters that have surrounded him," Harris bellowed. "We have corruption here in Wisconsin and voting across the nation. I am begging you, sir. I am begging you. Take it to him."

The crowd of thousands roared its approval.

In recent days, a campaign that embraced the mantra of "Country First" but is flagging in the polls and scrambling for a way to close the gap as the nation's economy slides into shambles has found itself at the center of an outpouring of raw emotion rare in a presidential race.

47. It's frightening
And "misguided" is a great description. I'm well aware of our population's ignorance, but, WOW,
it is just stunning that they don't have a clue how we have gotten into this mess. Not a clue what a shell of our former self (as a country) we really are and who's responsible for it.

As we spiral toward fascism are they enjoying it? Do they understand the meaning of socialism?
I don't know, this just really creeped me out, I guess because I like to pretend that mentality doesn't exist.

10. Racism is alive and well in the USA
I'm not suggesting all of them are racist; but I'd be willing to bet that a good number of them are.

Couple that with the fact that many of them were hyped by Palinocchio's Convention performance...it gave them a second wind that many of them didn't think they'd have. It must be a real dissappointment to gradually discover that she's just really not suitable VP material.

How much do you want to bet that no matter how wide the election margin when Obama wins, there'll be lots of thugs screaming for a recount?

11. Because
They're angry because they truly believed that the Bush years would kill the Democratic Party (and, secretly, they probably fantasized about actually killing Democrats). Now it's coming to an end and they can't handle it. The result is something bordering on homicidal mania; the final act is a fascist putsch.

This is truly surreal, not to mention scary. Someone has to put a stop to this baseless and escalating hatemongering. Where are the responsible GOP'ers?

let them feel the sharp edge of what the loss of freedoms they've been willing to give away in the last 8 years could feel like. How about the media roling tape on the faces of these dangerous people at these rallies and giving the tape to the FBI so that they have a record of the hostile, angry, subversives who are willing to give up everyone else's freedoms and privacy because "they've got nothing to hide". The minute this is turned on them, they are going to squeal like the pigs they are.

34. True, that
I also think that the political Right has burned itself out for the time being. But "the time being" could be very brief.

What I think we're seeing is real, hard-core extremism taking root (again) in this country. Episodes like the Philadelphia, Mississippi civil rights workers murders (1964), the Oklahoma City bombing (1996), and the various clinic-burnings and doctor-shootings are being joined by a growing lynch mob mentality.

John McCain is so covetous of the Oval Office that he's blind to the implications and consequences of his acts.

An era of liberal resurgence could easily create intense self-pity and persecution fantasies among the Right; when their fortunes improve (whether in 2010 or 2032 or 2100), we could be facing a more intensely malevolent political movement.

58. McCain and Palin are playing around a negative force that far
transcends their ability to either understand or control it. They have truly gone insane in their
quest for the Presidency. McCain is a modern day Capitan Ahab. Let us all hope that his obsession doesn't send us to the "bottom of the sea".

In the real world, it's time for the significant presence of the Secret Service and the FBI at these meetings. Congress should come back into session and use their authority to get the McCain campaign
under some semblance of control. McCain, himself, should be severely censured by the Senate. He should be ordered to cease and desist his efforts for foment violence during this election.

I saw unadulterated hatred and bigotry of all sorts, and a definite propensity for violence. They were itching to tear their political opponents to pieces.

The video of Obama supporters on the other hand, is a striking contrast. They were all able to articulate truthful, coherent, logical reasons for their opposition to McCain, without invoking epithets.

A case study in the psychological differences between liberal and conservative activism.

22. Thanks.... glad to see DogPoundPup started this one...
I've been watching the McCain/Palin hate rhetoric for more than a week
with a growing concern.

If repuks do not tone it down, THERE WILL BE VIOLENCE.
Incitement to violence is a crime.
James T. Harris, for one, needs to get a clue fast, as Harris reportedly pleaded with
a WAUKESHA, Wis republican mob at todays McCain/Palinto rally exhorting them
to "take it to Obama", pleading "I am begging you. Take it to him.",
as the mob reportedly howled.

Now I'm confident the folks here know full well what that piece of garbage Harris
meant. McCain/Palin campaign needs to show leadership and get some control of their
speakers. But they won't.
And if they don't.... well, we'll obviously have to use it against them.

So, got the picture?
I predict it will get worse until there is a serious meltdown.
Keep track of any partisan law enforcement.
STAY ALERT, STAY COOL, KEEP SAFE, PROTECT EACH OTHER, ESPECIALLY ON ELECTION DAY.

85. They're deliberately keeping media away from the people at the events. Hmmmm.
Palin staff keep journalists locked inside press area to prevent them from writing 'negative things.'

During Gov. Sarah Palin’s (R-AK) speech in Florida this morning, campaign staffers kept the press locked out of the park and away from supporters attending the speech:

Constantly under the watchful eyes of security, the media wasn’t permitted to wander around inside Coachman Park to talk to Sarah Palin supporters. When reporters tried to leave the designated press area and head toward the bleachers where the crowd was seated, an escort would dart out of nowhere and confront him or her and say, “Can I help you?” and turn the person around.

When one reporter asked an escort, who would not give her name, why the press wasn’t allowed to mingle, she said that in the past, negative things had been written. The campaign wanted to avoid that possibility Monday.

Palin has still yet to give a single press conference since being tapped as Sen. John McCain’s running mate on August 29.

51. Call them on it. Go to a McCain rally as a plant
and bring a petition that says: "Arrest the Terrorist Obama." Then go around getting people standing in line for the McCain rally to sign it. Next have a Dem friend call the police and say: "either arrest Obama for being a terrorist or arrest people at this rally who are inciting violence by stating he is one." This should all be filmed surreptitiously, of course.

The McCain team and supporters are already ACTUALLY calling him a terrorist (see film on youtube). Call the FUC**** on it. Neutralize them by letting the whole world see how truly disgusting they are. Independents will be repelled in droves by McCain's tactics.

53. Get a grip! I'm not the least bit afraid, nor is Barack. In case you
missed it Barack called McInsane out in the Charley Gibson interview.

Barack asked Gibson point blank, "why didn't McCain say any of this to my face when he had the chance?" On the street ladies that's a called put up or shut the fuck up. Barack threw down the gauntlet, lets see if McCain has the balls to pick it up!

The Bushie masks are coming off ever faster. Might be nice if people noticed.

but, as we all know, once a bamboozle reaches a certain catastrophic level, iot ecomes literally painful for people to admit the bamboozle.

Then they get angry, just begging for a demagogue to lay some blame for them.

It's the Jews. No, no, that's not it this time around. New imes call for new Bushie Marketing Strategies.

It's the LIBERALS. There. Now it's updated for 2008 Amerika.

and they really do turn deadly, then the rulers will have something they can point to, in addition to the global economic collapse, as to why they need to implement martial law and suspend the election. (Remember, troops are already in place)

62. These hate rallies are the closest expressions of Nazism we've
ever witnessed in the United States. But, McCain and Palin lack Hitler's skills. Further, there were other factors present during the 30's in Germany that resonated the situation, allowing Hitler to illegally seize the Government. We haven't reached that point YET.

87. The biggest difference is that there was a larger majority of
Germans ready to follow Hitler than there are Americans buying into the McCain/Palin trash. Further, there was still a vast amount of German resentment about their treatment in the WWI surrender treaty.

67. McCain and Palin are fueling the crowd with their hatred.
this is not going to be good. More division and more hatred by the republican party.

this is not only going to be a class war. Those people who attend these McCain rallies are full of hate and racism. Do you ever see a minority in the crowd?

hatred. Hate is the predominant emotion felt by Repukes. They hate people of color, hate people who work for a living, hate anyone who pokes a hole in their Fox News/Hate Radio bubble of denial.

72. Savor The irony, News Critters! The Guys You've Been Kissing Up to HATE YOU!
Savor the irony, news critters! For most of the last eight years, you and your broadcast/cable news networks have been toadying for the Republicans and the Conservatives, and they STIL Hate you!

No doubt you'll try to make up for it by jumping on every Obama administration micro-scandal you can find, and then try to claim that your coverage is evn-handed and non-partisan. Then you'll be wondering why any remaining liberal and centrist friends you still have will be treating you with contempt and disgust.

there has been speculation that there would be rioting upon McLame winning the election. I strongly suspect that they've been projecting, and upon Sen. Obama's victory, racial hate incidents will rise in the next few months leading to the inauguration. Look at how anti-Muslim violence increased after 9/11, and you'll have a rather scary picture of what to expect in the 'heartland'.

88. The depth of anger is frightening
I just watched a little clip on CNN about a parking lot owner in North Carolina who has posted a sign that if you are an Obama supporter or have an Obama sticker on your car you may not park in his lot. It turns out that the state of North Carolina has an agreement (the clip did not say if it was in writing or if he received compensation) for its employees to park in the lot. The owner during the interview said that he was just trying to inject some "fun" into the campaign, but added that he was offended that Obama was running for president and was doing his part to support John McCain. Not violent per se I admit, but he did say that if an Obama supporter parked in his lot he wouldn't have them towed or come after them with a baseball bat - yeah, nice.
