Tennessee's convention votes cast for 'George S. McCain'
Source: Knowville News Sentinel

In a slip of the lip echoing a misstatement 20 years ago, Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey cast Tennessee's 55 votes at the Republican National Convention for "George S. McCain."

Ramsey, chairman of the delegation, said Friday that he was concentrating on the first part of his floor statement, wherein he recalled that George Bush in 2000 defeated Democrat Al Gore Jr. in Tennessee, then lapsed into an auctioneer's chant.

An auctioneer by profession, Ramsey spoke in a sing-song voice as if bidding up the number of votes to be cast for Tennessee for John McCain. At the end, he declared, "Tennessee casts 55 votes for George S. McCain."

12. :::smiles:::
Hey Wiley. I am originally from TN and my mom lives there now. I think the 'MORONS" referred to would be the GOP, not the residents of the state in general.

Heck... the lot of 'em here (GOP-Al) are all freakin morons too.

17. I second that! sigh
I just keep hoping that one day we will turn blue. TN voted for Clinton/Gore in both elections but not since. It is depressing but maybe there is hope.

11. Well it's just the status of conservative voters these days.
They really don't need to know anything about who they are voting for including their name. Just as long as the would be candidate says that he hates liberals and believes in Jesus as his personal saviour, well then you have their vote.

13. Proceedural question...
Are those votes considered legitimate votes for John McCain as they were pledged to George McCain? I realize that is nit picky, but.... if the shoe were on the other foot I am sure the GOP would have taken exception.

15. Lindsey Graham made this slip as well ...
Edited on Sat Sep-06-08 12:16 PM by BearSquirrel2
Lindsey Graham made this slip as well. I saw it on the Daily Show.

This tells me that this is not a Freudian slip. It's vernacular slip. This is what they are calling McCain behind closed doors. Which tells me that they have no respect for John McCain and McCain is basically a prisoner now to party operatives. If elected, he will be like the last emperor of China, little more than a figurehead for the real power behind the thrown.
