Murdoch yearns to buy New York Times: Report
Source: Reuters

3 Sep, 2008, 0928 hrs IST, REUTERS

LOS ANGELES: Rupert Murdoch yearns to buy the New York Times and toyed with acquiring a sizable minority stake in Bloomberg News, Vanity Fair's Michael Wolff reports in an October 2008 article.

The News Corp chairman and chief executive has bought the Wall Street Journal and loves to gossip about news and even report stories himself, Wolff reports. He also sees his own family facing the same kind of internal division as the Bancrofts, who eventually sold him the Journal.

How could he avoid that fate, Wolff asked. ‘Oh, simple, I can't. All I can do is delay it,’ Murdoch responded.

Wolff, who is writing a biography of the Australian-born media tycoon, reports that before sewing up the deal to buy the Journal, Murdoch ‘for an hour or so’ decided that Merrill Lynch & Co Inc, heading for financial trouble, would be ready to sell its 20 percent stake in Bloomberg, and that he would buy it.

That deal never happened, but Murdoch did buy one of the best-known newspapers in the United States and now wants another -- the New York Times.

Carl, the greens keeper from "Caddyshack"--buying Tavern on the Green.

3. Murdoch thinks Obama will win the election
According to Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rupert_Murdoch

In a 2008 interview with Walt Mossberg, Murdoch was asked whether he had "anything to do with the New York Post's endorsement of Barack Obama." Without hesitation, Murdoch replied, "Yeah. He is a rock star. It's fantastic. I love what he is saying about education. I don't think he will win Florida...but he will win in Ohio and the election. I am anxious to meet him. I want to see if he will walk the walk."

5. And his consolidation of the media would be nearly complete. This
guy scares me because he's a kingmaker of sorts. Careers are built and destroyed by the media he controls. I hope the next congress will take up this issue, and prevent the complete takeover of the US media by an Australian.

8. SCREWPERT and THE SCREW YORK TIMES are made for each other!
Outside of Krugman, everyone else at the SCREW YORK TIMES lie any lie for the GOP already. Must warm the cockles of SCREWPERT's heart.

What we need to do is restrict the number of media properties a single person can have!
