Obama camp says Detroit mayor unwelcome in Denver
By KATHY BARKS HOFFMAN – 1 hour ago

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Democratic candidate Barack Obama doesn't want the embattled mayor of Detroit on hand when Obama accepts the party's presidential nomination in Denver.

A spokesman for Obama said Thursday that Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick would be a distraction if he goes to the convention as a superdelegate.

Kilpatrick faces eight felony charges in a perjury case and two felony charges in an assault case. A Michigan judge told Kilpatrick on Thursday that he could attend the convention. His lawyer, James Thomas, said high-ranking Democrats want Kilpatrick to attend.

But Obama spokesman Brent Colburn said in an e-mail that the focus of the convention should be on Obama and not on what Colburn called "the troubles of one individual."

1. Kwame has been bad for Detroit, and MI
Now he wants to be bad for Obama.
The sooner he gets removed, the better for everyone.

grinning his ass off when the judge said he could go to the convention. I wanted to slap the shit out of him. We don't need him there they should block him in some way or make him miserable as hell with his arrogant ass.

2. Good for Obama
People need to turn their backs on the Detroit Mayor, his behavior has been that of a common street thug. His mother must be so ashamed.

4. I love a man who is on top of things. Kilpatrick shouldn't expect to be
allowed to attend. I hope he doesn't make a stink.

5. Thank You. Glad this happened quickly
after the Judge's change to allow Kilpatrick to travel to the convention. Kilpatrick should be stripped of his super delegate status until the charges against him have been resolved.

8. What made this idiotic thug
Edited on Thu Aug-14-08 04:26 PM by Royal Oak Rog
think that he would be welcome at the convention in the first place? He better not make a beef out of this either. There was no way Obama was gonna let him attend, not in a million years. What an idiot, he ruins his life and now he's gonna hold the party as a hostage?

9. He doesn't care if he's welcome or not
If he goes to Denver, he'll stroll into the convention hall surrounded by his cop/bodyguard posse, and nobody better get in his way. I wonder if he'll wear the diamond in his ear.

Our gangsta mayor, what a piece of work.

10. Detroit Mayor Kilpatrick to Denver? Not so fast...
Judge Giles Orders Mayor Kilpatrick's Tether Put Back On

Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick must return to wearing an electronic tether.

Detroit 36th District Court Judge Ronald Giles clarified just moments ago in a written order that Kilpatrick must remain on tether, despite a ruling earlier today from another judge, Giles’ clerk Juanita Newsome told the Free Press.

Giles is presiding over two felony assault charges filed last week against Kilpatrick for allegedly shoving a sheriff’s deputy who was trying to serve a subpoena in a separate criminal perjury case that evolved from the mayor’s text message scandal.

Earlier today, Wayne County Circuit Judge Leonard Townsend ordered Kilpatrick’s tether removed in the perjury case, and also granted Kilpatrick permission to attend the Democratic National Convention in Denver on Aug. 25, something Kilpatrick was not eligible to do under earlier restrictions.

But Newsome, the clerk, said Giles today put in writing that the mayor must remain on tether in the assault case and stay within the confines of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.

His order does not grant Kilpatrick an exception to attend the convention.

14. I miss Dennis Archer. Dave Bing may run if Kwame (hopefully) goes.
Never a whiff of a scandal around Dennis. Was and is a class act, and a nice guy.

Dave Bing is no youngster, but he might be just the tonic that Detroit needs short term for the healing.

16. Congresswoman Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, aka Kwame Mommy.
She's the head of the CBC ... until January.

She reminds me of a Barbara Bush type of woman whose offspring and their families suckle at the teats of governments. That's when they're not flat-out stealing.
