McCain Gaffes, Volunteering Wife For Topless Contest
Source: ABC News

ABC News' Gregory Wallace and Sara Just Report: Sen. John McCain, R-Az., perhaps unknowingly, volunteered his wife for a beauty pageant on Monday that often features contestants topless -- and, occasionally, without any decency -- at the Sturgis, South Dakota, motorcycle rally.

"I was looking at the Sturgis schedule, and noticed that you had a beauty pageant, so I encouraged Cindy to compete," McCain told an audience at the rally. "I told her with a little luck, she could be the only woman to serve as both the First Lady and Miss Buffalo Chip."

The audience, clearly better versed in the details of the pageant, cheered and whistled their approval.

Cindy McCain as Miss Buffalo Chip?
By Kate Phillips

Senator John McCain dipped in and out yesterday at the big bikers’ rally in Sturgis, S.D., to the roar of motorcycles and the admiration of veterans in attendance.

We’re pretty sure then that when he offered up his wife Cindy, who has graced Vogue this year and other magazines as one of the country’s most beautiful women, to compete in the rally’s Miss Buffalo Chip contest, that well, he didn’t entirely get — as an ESPN writer suggests — that the contestants sometimes wind up topless, walk about in thongs (Shocking!) or are otherwise scantily clothed. (Oh! Debauchery!)
Or maybe he did and was just having a little fun.

“I told her with a little luck that she could be the only woman to serve as First Lady and Miss Buffalo Chip,” Mr. McCain told the crowd, as his wife waved to them. (To laughter from the audience, we might add.)
Here’s the YouTube clip where you see the senator and Mrs. McCain (who by the way is laughing), on stage, while he jokes about

http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/08/05/cindy-mccain-as-miss-buffalo-chip/

Along with making history with his appearance, McCain came close to breaking new ground as he introduced his wife, Cindy McCain (who, Drogin wrote, "wore the equivalent of a nun's habit here: black jeans and a long-sleeved shirt").

McCain, Drogin relates, told his rowdy listeners "that he had encouraged his wife to enter the annual Sturgis beauty contest, one in which nudity is not uncommon. ... 'I told her with a little luck she could be the only lady to serve as first lady and Miss Buffalo Chip,' he said with a broad grin."

Mrs. McCain has been doing yeoman work on the campaign trail. Just this last weekend, she expertly mingled with a NASCAR crowd at Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania (and took a short spin in the pace car). Showing excellent judgment, however, she passed on her husband's latest suggestion.

61. "as one of the country’s most beautiful women"
Are they (the magazine) kidding me? Have they actually looked at her? What ever looks she may have are ruined by the type of person she is, anyway. Not to be superficial, but when I hear "country's most beautiful women" I envision Halle Berry, Salma Hayek, Rosario Dawson, Jessica Alba- but not this stepford looking woman.

Obama rarely has Michelle next to him for everyday appearances.

This makes no sense - unless he is using her blondness as "exhibit A" in his attempt to appear less of a doddering old goat.

She must be very ambitious to go along with being marketed in such a cheap and transparent way.

Cindy laughed at it ... so what's your problem. Women are obsessed with the idea that men want to look at their body. So it's no wonder that this can be tactfully put as a compliment.

Knee-jerk feminist reactions isn't going to help Obama win an election.

45. McCain campaigns at another sort of rally in Sturgis, S.D. (LAT)
... Not everyone in the crowd was convinced.

Bruce Charles Wenger, 54, who served 31 years in the Army and now is a criminal defense lawyer in Hudson, Wis., made his annual pilgrimage to Sturgis on his Harley. He wore shoulder-length white hair and a black leather vest over his bare chest.

"As a career military man, it sickens me that our boys are dying in Iraq," Wenger said heatedly. "It's pointless. That's why I'm supporting Obama."

Mickey Hartnett, 60, a Vietnam veteran and an environmental engineer, also was skeptical. "I don't agree with all his positions," he said ...

51. Does "without any decency" mean NEKKID???
It's obviously a reference to SOMETHING. Maybe it could be as simple as not having a Dale Ernhart sticker on your car. Anyone want to clarify to what this refers?

55. This will reduce his popularity with women.

It should blow a few percentage points off his numbers, and maybe it will encourage another percentage point to vote for Obama. In this race, that's very significant.

"Before selecting those tops, McCain quickly glanced at a rack of red T-shirts which your pooler saw featured a topless Miss Buffalo Chips with her arm and a denim jacket strategically placed. A few feet away stood the woman herself, who goes by Jessica, wearing a black bikini and black leather chaps, signing autographs. McCain did not make his way over to her but several other male patrons did. “I don’t want John McCain’s autograph,” one man slurred to Jessica. “I want yours,” he said, holding up a T-shirt for her to sign"

His popularity in front of a crowd proves what a shallow, bubble-headed pseudo-celebrity nitwit McCain is.

Sin-Sin Cindy and her Tassled Twins perform for your pleasure.

I don't recall Obama offering to have Michelle flash the crowd in Germany . . . I wonder how a little "joke" like that would've played to the oh-so-righteous-and-sanctimonious McLame / Republican crowd? Or the NYT? Or the WSJ? Or the Washington Post, MSNBC, Washington Times, CNN, or any of the MSN stovepipes. Think they would've been charmed by Obama's folksy down-home American humor? Or would he be a ghetto n***** pimpin' out his ho?

What would the reaction have been if Bill and Hillary, in their desperation, offered to have Chelsea dance naked in front of a biker crowd?

81. You are so right on
It's incredible isn't it? It's like they advertise "we're so sleezy, but ain't we cute". The fuckin' retards in this country literally don't get it and are as stupid and clueless, classless and as in the gutter as he is. Their response is to pull out their wankers and pull on em' and go...yeah man! Show your wife's titties, we think thats cool man, your one of us man. GAWD, I'm just fucking apalled. And they think this man should be the leader of the USA. Shoot me....I think it might be less painful.

62. Those signs kill me
"Bikers for McCain". There aren't many bikers in that pic. A bunch of accountants and doctors, but not many bikers Most of them probably trailered their bike out there. Sturgis isn't what it was 15 or more years ago- just a bunch of "Billy Badass" wannabees who are lucky to put 1000 miles on their bike a year.

I call their bikes "butt jewelry". Just something to have in the garage to impress the neighbors, put 2000 miles on in two years, sell it and by a brand new one. Can't understand it. I have an '83 HD, and if I don't get in at least 15k miles a year I feel like I am neglecting her. They are meant to be rode. And you can't beat 45 miles to the gallon (or 40 if I am getting on the throttle). I could never imagine selling her, too much history together. The "biker" craze has had a few good side effects- cops don't hassle us as much anymore and people don't look at you funny and draw their kids closer when they see you.

on edit: sorry for the rant

83. I didn't see a rant, 45 mpg is great,
that beats my Prius. I was hoping for about 50 mpg but I'm getting a little less than 40 mpg. I don't know if it's my driving habits or if something is wrong. I'd like to see 100 mpg cars.

I've only been on a motorcycle once, as a passenger. It was a memorable experience.

84. Most gas nowadays
have 10 percent ethanol. Part for part, it produces half the energy of gas, so that 10 percent brings down the potential of the gas, which makes the engine need more. That way, two groups profit: corn growers and gas companies.

85. So did those "credit-card bikers" go out and print those signs?
Or were they distributed by political operatives trying to seed the crowd for staged photo-impressions?

On the other hand, did Obama need to distribute a shitload of Obama paraphernalia in Berlin?

Yeah, I know what you mean about the Accountants Gone Wild. What always gets me is how they have the perfectly co-ordinated outfits and showroom accessories to dress up and ride around in, with "attitude to spare."

70. It's kind of sad that the only way for him to get large crowds is to show up at events
that are known to gather large amounts of people.

I bet over half of those in the audience didn't even care to see the man.
