Bloomberg: Reject Obama 'Muslim' rumors

The Associated Press in New York reports this morning that Michael Bloomberg, the mayor of New York City, is imploring Jewish voters to reject the ongoing, online suggestions that Sen. Barack Obama is a closet Muslim.

Obama is a Christian.

Bloomberg, the AP reports, "is speaking to members of a Jewish group in Boca Raton, Fla., warning them that the attempt to portray Obama as a shadowy Muslim with a hidden agenda often targets Jewish voters online and with e-mails

The mayor says the deceptive campaign against Obama, who is a Christian, threatens to undo the strides that Jews and Muslims have made together."

7. I understand your point, but that addresses a different issue. From the Japanese Internment

and taking of their property illegally to now, represent the predjudice that still exists in this country

There should be no problem for ANY American running for political office no matter what their religion is, especially since religious freedom is one of the foundations of our Constitution

However, we all know what the email is trying to do, and that is not only lie about Obama's religious beliefs, but also imply that being a Muslim is akin to terrorism

Why dilute his actual, and very important, message by caveatting with a "politically correct" meme? In truth, religion is a driving factor in our election process. I personally deplore it, but ignoring the reality is perilous.

If he had to list all the "acceptable" religions, he'd lose his audience which *needs* to hear that Mr. Obama is being lied about.

I'm sure that, in the correct context, he would have made a statement equating all religions and satisfied your personal requirement. It just wasn't the time or place for that message to be voice; it wasn't germaine.

would have a problem if an American Citizen who is a Muslim would be regarded unkindly
