3 US soldiers killed by small-arms fire in Iraq
By SINAN SALAHEDDIN, Associated Press Writer
BAGHDAD - Three U.S. soldiers were shot dead Wednesday in northern Iraq, and the decaying bodies of at least 23 Iraqis were discovered in a shallow grave and a sewer shaft at separate sites near the capital.

The Americans were killed when gunmen opened fire on them in the northern Iraqi village of Hawija, according to a brief military statement.

The area, once a hub for Sunni militants and disaffected allies of Saddam Hussein, is thought to have been pacified in recent months. Last year it hosted one of the largest sign-on ceremonies for tribal sheiks partnering with U.S. forces to fight al-Qaida in Iraq.

South of Baghdad, Iraqi villagers and soldiers unearthed at least 13 bodies from a shallow, dusty grave in farmland on the outskirts of Latifiyah, a mostly Sunni town that also has some Shiite residents. The bodies were first discovered Tuesday, but digging continued a day later.

Associated Press Television News footage showed Iraqi troops and civilians clawing through dusty soil with shovels. At least three severely decomposed bodies could be seen in side-by-side graves.

going great....as 40 to 50 more soldiers die each month in Iraq....that's OK with McCain, corporate profits are skyrocketing in Iraq (our tax dollars paying for it) and oil companies are stealing billions in un-metered OIL - War for profit!

And the idiots want to expand the war to Iran....for even more corporate profits....Iran's huge oil fields....And if possible, more war in Venezuela who also has OIL BushCo wants very badly.

Corporate fascist imperialist = Wars for profit!

7. That is Why
every one of us has to keep attention on this story. Each of us has to promote our candidate and keep this issue alive on our own community levels. We can't afford to lose this election (and we won't.) Too many lives depend on it. I honestly can't even conceive of us having to go on with this sacrifice with no end in sight (meaning McCain).

8. McCain said last night "the surge is working". Where are they getting their tool's for measuring?
This just drives me crazy. Every death, injury and suicide means the surge is not working! We need to get our soldiers home ASAP!
