Ga. backs touch-vote plan despite critical study
By DUANE D. STANFORD
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

A state election official said Thursday he is "very confident" in the security of Georgia's new touch-screen voting system, despite a study that concluded it is highly vulnerable to fraud.

"My confidence in this system is the same as it was . . . before I read the report," said Michael Barnes, assistant elections director in the secretary of state's office.

Barnes was in charge of Georgia's statewide rollout in November.

Mike Jacobsen, a spokesman for Diebold, based in North Canton, Ohio, declined to comment in detail until company officials had more time to review the study. But he said the company's systems "pass rigorous certification tests at the federal and state governmental levels."

Georgia Secretary of State Cathy Cox championed touch-screen voting after learning that the state had had more uncounted votes during the 2000 presidential election than even Florida.

Cox persuaded Georgia officials to install the $54 million system statewide for the November 2002 election, in which Gov. Sonny Perdue upset incumbent Roy Barnes. The system is used in several states, including Maryland, California and Kansas.

Amazing.

I saw this on the Georgia SOS website today.

“Welcome to the State of Georgia’s Help America Vote Act Web page. The State of Georgia is extremely fortunate to have embarked upon election reform prior to the passage of the federal Help America Vote Act of 2002 (“HAVA”). As a result of our proactive efforts, we are proud to announce that the State is approximately 95-99% in compliance with HAVA.”

(Chevy Chase muffles out: “bitch!”)

HAVA: http://www.sos.state.ga.us/hava/default.htm

***yeah, Georgia really got on the stick after 2000. They are like 2 years head of the mandated HAVA deadlines. How good of her. Does GA have some sort of rivalry with Florida that they compete even to have the WORST, most unfair elections ever??????

amazing!

2. Would you then be implying...
that war hero Max Cleland was robbed in an "upset victory" by the punk b*tch (how dare he put Sen. Cleland in the same ad with Saddam Hussein and O.B.L.!?) named Saxby Chambliss?

If you are making that implication...then you've got my ex-ATL resident vote.

Hmm... I think we have a new term for these new PC Voting System "upset victories" that seemed to benefit folks like Chuck Hagel and Saxby Chambliss - I think I'll call them "Computer Assisted Victories".

war hero and patriot Cleland may as well not even run.....

The Atlanta Journal and Constitution had better make this front page news for weeks......or they are bought and paid for WHORES.

Use the link below. Select under "Alternate Search" Voting System Used and pick your state (like Georgia)...

7. No.......it isn't over.........really......GA is not lost yet......
The stories coming out about the voting systems.....the Diebold DREs, is going to get them PULLED from these states.

There is a house bill right now that is asking that all voting machines have an auditable paper trail. If that's the case......then GA will have revise their systems, whether Barnes likes it or not!!

Gotta get that bill passed! It is republican sponsored.......

8. The people of Georgia won't back vote fraud. All we need is for

the study about the problems with voting machines to be well-publicized in Georgia.

Nobody likes to be cheated or to think they might be cheated in the future.

9. The FIRST thing to do is write to the AJC and complain about the

headline "Ga. Backs Touch-Vote Plan, etc." Georgia didn't back the touch-vote plan, a couple of state employees did. The state would have to hold a referendum to determine if Georgia backs this plan.
