Bush Emotional at Medal Ceremony for Fallen Navy SEAL
Source: ABC News

ABC's Jennifer Duck reports: Clearly choked up, and at times wiping away his own tears, President Bush awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously at the White House Tueday to Navy SEAL Petty Officer Michael Monsoor, who was killed in Iraq in September of 2006 when he fell on a grenade to save comrades during fighting in Ramadi.

...

Bush described Monsoor's perseverance as a child, when coughing fits from severe asthma would land him in the hospital. "On some nights, his coughing fits would land him in the hospital. But Mike would not lie low for long. He strengthened his lungs by racing his siblings in the swimming pool. He worked to wean himself off his inhaler. He built himself into a superb athlete -- excelling from sports like football to snowboarding,"

...

...

"One of the survivors put it this way: "Mikey looked death in the face that day and said, 'You cannot take my brothers. I will go in their stead," Bush said.

"May God comfort you and may God bless America," Bush managed to choke out near the end of his tribute to Monsoor.

28. Well said! Perfect! If he had to attend every soldier's memorial service,
his ego would crack up completely.

They show and hype these ceremonies (no disrespect to the Navy Seal intended), but the press isn't allowed to cover any other soldier's funeral.

4. I really hate that bastard (bush)
Petty Officer Michael Monsoor did not have to die in Iraq and neither
did hundreds of thousands of others except for the fact bush allowed
the crazy neo con / big oil dream of an Iraqi war to become reality.

10. I'd be willing to bet that Petty Officer Michael Monsoor would trade all of the medals
and honor gaurds and rituals and "glory" stories in a split second for one more day of life.

7. Pink says it best:
Dear Mr. President,
Come take a walk with me.
Let's pretend we're just two people and
You're not better than me.
I'd like to ask you some questions if we can speak honestly.

What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street?
Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep?
What do you feel when you look in the mirror?
Are you proud?

How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Can you even look me in the eye
And tell me why?

Dear Mr. President,
Were you a lonely boy?
Are you a lonely boy?
Are you a lonely boy?
How can you say
No child is left behind?
We're not dumb and we're not blind.
They're all sitting in your cells
While you pave the road to hell.

What kind of father would take his own daughter's rights away?
And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay?
I can only imagine what the first lady has to say
You've come a long way from whiskey and cocaine.

How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Can you even look me in the eye?

Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Minimum wage with a baby on the way
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Rebuilding your house after the bombs took them away
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Building a bed out of a cardboard box
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
You don't know nothing 'bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work

8. In love with Death.
Some people are emotionally deaf. Only big pain can be felt, and the painful feeling that pierces numbness proves to them that they are indeed alive, hence, they love that (Death in this case) which makes them feel something. This problem often takes the forms of masochism, but maybe the big pain can be displaced onto others and then used vicariously to prove to one's self and others that "I am human afterall and, hence, deserving of your affection."

12. How sad
He had to wipe away his OWN tears. Doesn't he have a boy to do that? Oh, wait, that would imply that he actually sheds tears. I must be thinking about the one he keeps to wipe his crusty ass because he can't find it, even when he uses both hands.

Bette Davis, famous for her ability to tear up those piercing peeps, said her trick was to pluck a nose hair with her fingernails just before the cameras rolled.

Of course that would imply that you are both rational, fearless and coordinated, so maybe the onion juice on the fingers was the trick.

Is it a coincidence that GWB got all weepy during that ceremony on the same day Mommy Bush told him he couldn't ride his tricycle around the Rose Gardens because he had been naughty the day before?

We report....you decide.

21. What a sticky sweet cotton candy syruppy dose of sick sentimentality!
"One of the survivors put it this way: "Mikey looked death in the face that day and said, 'You cannot take my brothers. I will go in their stead," Bush said.

This obviously manipulative, over sentimentalized vomit inducing jargon probably really appeals to the vision Bush has about how 'romantic' it is to fight his wars. Crap! Barf! He manages to get a man crush on a dead Navy SEAL, weeping all over himself and probably secretly turned on all the time. It reminds me of Henry Hyde wailing interminably about what are we going to tell the children about Bill's penis while excusing his as a youthful indiscretion!

27. I saw that on the news last night
It was a disgusting display. If I were that kid's parents, I would not have accepted the award, let alone even have been in the room with the man who had indirectly killed my son. I don't know what got into him yesterday, but I'm sure that it wasn't his conscience nor a sudden realization of just how costly this war has been.

29. Every memorial service, every funeral, should be allowed to be
covered by the media if the family says okay. Every soldier's death is as pertinent, yet the Chimperor only wants the exceptionally sacrificial services covered.

But they are afraid the public would revolt from the constant pain.

31. Yeah, only see the funerals that Bush wants us to see
And only when the story is a photo op about him and how much he choked up, like it's so hard to induce tears if you have a mind to, especially artificially with something that stings the eyes. It's 5 years too late crap face! Why haven't you been to the other funerals and memorials???
