Wexler Introduces Resolution Recognizing 5 Year Anniversary of Iraq War and Calling for Withdrawal of Troops

Today, Congressman Robert Wexler (D-FL) a senior member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs introduced a strongly worded resolution recognizing the fifth anniversary of the disastrous Iraq War and called for an immediate and safe redeployment of US troops from Iraq.

Wexler’s resolution recognizes the enormous cost of the Iraq War on US troops, their families and the entire nation, citing the almost 4,000 US soldiers who have lost their lives, the over 39,000 wounded servicemen and women, and the recent report by The Washington Post indicating that the war is on schedule to cost American tax-payers at least $3 trillion.

Wexler’s resolution also expresses his strong support for Congress to withhold additional funding for the President’s war in Iraq and criticizes the Bush Administration for failing to provide proper care for thousands of American troops returning home from battlefields in Iraq and Afghanistan. Finally, the Wexler resolution expresses strong Congressional support for American service members who have sacrificed greatly in Iraq.

“President Bush’s misguided decision to go to war in Iraq in March 2003 has led to the most significant foreign policy disaster in the history of this nation."

This is such bullshit. No one is just 'pulling out' any time soon. Not Bush, Obama, Clinton. Instead, there should be a 'path to self reliance' for the Iraqis. The 'path' should include a time table for the Iraqis to follow, not the US per se. It should be made clear the the US greatly reducing military presence but that doesnt mean it wont have the means to quickly go back in if shit hits the fan.

We all know the much of the extremist activity over there is because the US is there. However, there will be a US military presence in Iraq until everyone that reads this dies. Anyone thinking that there can be an immediate withdrawal of all the troops is ripe for falling for Wexler's grandstanding.
