Inspired by Alabama Jurist, Winston-Salem Official Places Ten Commandments
Marker at City Hall
The Associated Press
Published: Jan 19, 2004

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - A city council member who said he was inspired by Alabama's ousted chief justice placed a one-ton granite monument to the Ten Commandments in front of City Hall on Monday while it was closed for the King Day holiday.
Vernon Robinson said he and four others acted on the holiday because the empty parking lot allowed room for a truck and crane, which they used to position the monument at dawn.

I have to say I find the language in the header of your post to be offensive and sexist. Truly, was that necessary?

7. Why at Dawn?
"Vernon Robinson said he and four others acted on the holiday because the empty parking lot allowed room for a truck and crane, which they used to position the monument at dawn."

Why not in the middle of the day? Since it's a holiday there wouldn't likely be vehicles in the parking lot at all during the day.

Maybe they wanted to get in and out before anyone made an issue of it. Hmmm. . .

16. Well, why not?
Actually, it's an improvement. More guts. Former (Hooray!!) Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore installed his monolith in the dead of night when no one was looking.

Glad they did it. If these idiots don't do stupid things like this we will never be able to find them and impeach them for violating the laws they are supposed to be enforcing. It's like self-entrapment!

8. cool, I think I'll put a one-ton monument in the foyer at my workplace
and when they tell me I can't put it there (because I don't own the damn property, for one thing!) I'll just accuse them of demanding that I "deny my God"

18. If I was the judge hearing the court case which will ensue...
I would force these folks to remove the monument. Further I would not allow any sort of crane or heavy equipment to be used. Each would be given a three inch long coal chisel and a tack hammer and they would be required to remove the monument with those tools alone. They would remain incarcerated until the monument was removed in its entirety. While working they would be required to listen to a looped recording of someone reading of the Constitution over and over and over.

12. Do any of you hear those calls that come into C-span?
These people will not be happy unless the whole country is on its knees praying for George Bush. In their churches. Then it will be how you get on your knees and pray. If the religious zealot's win everyone will see their freedoms go by by. It is really getting scary. That Little paper we rule our selfs by will go right out the window. I do not think it will happen as I think the American is to smart for that but I do think it can get worse before people see it.

Don't believe me? Look here:

<snip>

About Vernon
You may not have heard of me yet, but you'll recognize the names of a lot of conservatives who have. At one time or another I have been endorsed by:

Jesse Helms, Alan Keyes, Bob Barr, Elizabeth Dole, Lauch Faircloth, Richard Burr, Tom Tancredo, U.S. Immigration Reform PAC, English Language PAC, Jack Kemp, Dick Armey, Gary Bauer, the NRA, the Executive Directors of Gun Owners of America and the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, Right-to-Life, Bill Bennett, Pat Buchanan, Pete du Pont, Police Benevolent Association, Int'l Association of Fire Fighters, Republican Liberty Caucus, The Dixie Daily News, Southern Caucus, Richard Petty, and Jeb Bush.

President George H.W. Bush honored me with an appointment in his administration and hired me to work on the staff of his re-election campaign. My political heroes are Ronald Reagan, Jesse Helms, Clarence Thomas, and Antonin Scalia. That should give you a pretty good idea of where I stand.

17. Being too close to Helms can do brain damage
He's gone around the bend, for sure. His own words:

I will never blink in a staring contest with the liberal Democrats. I will always fight for what's right and I will never go native.

26. Update!
(snip) Winston-Salem mayor says Ten Commandments monument divisive; put up at city hall by councilman

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) -- A granite monument to the Ten Commandments, placed in front of City Hall by a city council member, doesn't help unite people, the mayor said.

"Obviously, if you are going to do something like this, this is not the right way to do it,'' Mayor Allen Joines said Monday, hours after the monument was installed. "We are working hard to bring the city together. Actions like this tend to push people apart.'' (snip)

"He doesn't have the right to put it there,'' City Attorney Ron Seeber said. The appropriate process for anyone to put a permanent marker on city property is to petition the council for approval, he said.

The city's staff was to decide Tuesday whether it will take down the marker or ask Robinson to remove it, said Lee Garrity, the assistant city manager for public safety. (snip/...)

28. Terrific article!
Doesn't look as if it's going to be as easy as he thought!

The reason he chose the holiday to bring in the monument was precisely because no one would be around to challenge him. Sheesh!

29. As another Winston-Salem resident- there are two reasons he did this
1) First and foremost, he wanted to gain attention since he's trying to win Richard Burr's House seat (Burr was handpicked to run for US Senate).

2) He's a self-promoting ass that loves to keep things stirred up.

Want a glimpse as to what we are dealing with here in Winston-Salem ?-www.vernonrobinson.com
Warning: prepare to :puke:

31. Wow, do all Busheviks lie like this?
I'm SURE this Bushevik selected a holdiday when the parking lot was empty to perform his Imperial Fealty and place his graven idol to the Emperor and the Emperor's God, who happens to be Satan.

And like the rest of the followers of the Prince of Lies, old Vern just COULDN'T 'fess up to the fact that he did it when the Hall was deserted and closed was because of his cowardice and fear that people would stand up to him.

Liars. The Garden variety are bad enough. The Sanctimious Hypocrites are worse. The Soviet, Orwellian Busheviks are the worst.
