UPI: 911 Report says NO Iraq-Al Quada Link
WASHINGTON, July 23 (UPI) -- The report of the joint congressional inquiry into the suicide hijackings on Sept. 11, 2001, to be published Thursday, reveals U.S. intelligence had no evidence that the Iraqi regime of Saddam Hussein was involved in the attacks, or that it had supported al-Qaida, United Press International has learned.

"The report shows there is no link between Iraq and al-Qaida," said a government official who has seen the report.

Former Democratic Georgia Sen. Max Cleland, who was a member of the joint congressional committee that produced the report, confirmed the official's statement....

12. The interesting thing about lies....
...is that they eventually are uncovered.

Most of the time.

6. Was the motivation to stall the release of the report gaining time to war?
The Iraq connection lie was always a good way to rouse those Americans looking for revenge for 911. Holding the report back would have protected that cause for war from those with no interest in prowling the internet for some truth.

11. No
It was mainly so people wouldn't realize how monumentally Bush screwed up in even letting the attacks happen.

21. White-wha?
Watch thre phraseology you choose here...you are doing a very low threshold of proof here. Did you read Mertlemen back in 2002, conclusions were similar except as to motive. Its done!

10. This is especially sad since 72% of Americans were led
to believe that there was a connection between 911 and Iraq. Bush should be impeached for this and the Uranium lie.

14. There is nothing said about being stupid
We Americans kind of like being lied too, 'eh?

We all know what the three biggest lies are, don't we? And we like it except for being told, 'it's in the mail'.

To be sad is not to except reality. So buck up and fuck 'em all, 'eh?

15. Well, hotphlash, with any luck, this lie finally being brought to light
might be enough. And who's to say the other things won't come out later? I'd say there's cause for optimism.

23. How much rocking can the boat take?
If it was Dems on one side and Delay on the other - I'd say plenty and the only reason why Little Boot's failure may not get publcized is that Dems might lose their spine and decide "us kids can't take too much upheaval"

16. More drip,drip, drip
Publication of this report brings together the 9-11 missteps by the Bush Administration and the fraudulent case that was made for the war on Iraq. Leaving out huge portions to avoid embarrassment is a HUGE mistake on the part of Bush supporters. Already a Republican Senator (Shelby) is suggesting that material was held back for just that purpose. This means the embarrassing information will come out, one way or the other. Having it come out piece meal is far more damaging than taking the negative hit all at once (I believe Mr. Machieveli had something to say on this, something along the lines of "Do the unpopular things all at once but do the popular things a little at a time.") Surely the Bushies know this (although their record on the 16 notorious words in the SOTU suggests other wise). If they do know this and are choosing to hold back the info anyway, it suggests that the information is more than just embarrassing - possibly criminal or opening the door to major scandal. I think Bush is finished. Watch for a primary challenge by McCain. Many pubbies will not want a repeat of 1992 where they renominated a weak incumbent. If it looks like that is happening - the Republican party will split, imo, not unlike the Teddy Roosevelt Bull Moose split in 1912 - with McCain playing TR.

18. Possible trifecta in the making
It just occurred to me that we might have a possible trifecta in the making here all within one week-

-Bush missteps revealed on 9/11 - exposing Bush Lies
-No connection between 9/11 and Iraq - exposing a Bush Lie
-No Iraq purchase of African Uranium - exposing another Bush Lie

Do you think the shrub will brag about this trifecta at fundraisers?

26. How'd I miss THAT?
I just saw Mr. Wilson on the Daily Show. He didn't say anything specific about his wife at all, he only said "there was a publication that made accusations about my family" in the days after his op-ed... Jon didn't seem to even notice, nor bring it up in any way...

25. Thank You Max Cleland, for the quote I've been waiting to see:
for so long...

so very, very long...

Maybe getting tarred as a soft-on-terrorism lout, replete with TV commercials using Bin Laden's photos sticks in his craw. Maybe having lost three limbs in the service of his country and then getting sandbagged in a highly dubious touch screen election has steeled him against the true terrorists: our administration.

Here's what I mean, a quote from this article:

"The administration sold the connection (between Iraq and al-Qaida) to scare the pants off the American people and justify the war," said Cleland. "What you've seen here is the manipulation of intelligence for political ends."

Traction for this will take time.

The important question is: when did the Junta know this, and what did they say and do afterward? Sure, Hussein has connections to Hamas, but mentioning "terrorism" and "national security" and "Iraq" in the same paragraphs is absolute LYING, even though he supported terrorism against Israel.
