Huckabee trims costs, eyes possible Florida pullout
Source: AP

ORLANDO (AP) — Battling to stay competitive after his weekend loss in South Carolina, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee is taking new steps to save money, including no longer scheduling planes and buses for journalists trying to cover his presidential campaign.

Huckabee said he will continue to campaign in Florida on a shoestring budget, but added that he may pull out of the state before its Jan. 29 Republican primary if his prospects look dim.

"I don't want to abandon Florida yet," Huckabee told reporters Monday on a late-night flight from Orlando to Atlanta, where he planned to campaign Tuesday. "We have not come to the conclusion that Florida is out of play."

He said his campaign will evaluate the Florida situation day by day. Meanwhile, he said, he will find time to campaign in several other southern states holding primaries on Feb. 5.

1. He's still so young...
Maybe he could get a second job to make ends meet.

BTW... When did Chuck Norris announce? I guess I missed it.

3. The other Republicans ...

The other Republicans have lots of ways to destroy Huckabee. The RNC does not want him. He doesn't represent him. Plus, his commutation habits and signed stance on the role of women in a marriage would be a serious problem in the general election.

Huck's loss in evangelical South Carolina is likely due to under the radar sniping. His victory in Iowa probably had a lot to do with a network of regional preachers helping him. Iowa isn't that far from Iowa and I could easily see them bussing up lots of bible thumpers to work the campaign.

4. I am gleeful that his campaign is on the verge of imploding. Sad that a tougher
opponent will be the nominee, but positively gleeful to see this psychotic fuck start spiraling down.

6. It's quite telling that one of the frontrunners is running out of cash
I knew GOP fundraising was going poorly, I didn't realize it was this bad.

12. Not just one of the frontrunners
McCain's short of cash, too. Romney's been writing personal loans to his campaign. And the rest of them barely register on the money train. The big money and the smart money seem to be going to the blue side of the ledger this time around.

7. Hm mm, maybe the right wing bible thumpers and evangelical fundamentalists
are not in control of the GOP as I believed. Or else he concentrated on the economic issues too much. Looks like McCain and the others will start shouting bible verses and promise to stone all the gay people and post the 10 commandments on top of the Washington Monument or change the Constitution to eliminate the Bill of Rights and replace them with the 10 commandments.

11. The evangelical fundamentalists have never controlled the national GOP
The powers that be are an insidious group of neocon intellectual scum, welded to big-business leeches. That's what it's been for decades.

10. No, no!
Losing Fred was hard enough. I can't bear to think that Rev. Huck is fading. I wanted him for the nominee.

Actually, I was fantasizing about a Huckabee-Thompson ticket. Then it wouldn't matter which Dem won the nomination.
