US fears links between Latin America, militants

Friday, January 18, 2008

WASHINGTON: A top US military commander said Wednesday he fears a “disastrous” linkup between drug traffickers and radical Islamists in Latin America, where he said Iran wields growing influence.

“I fear greatly that the connectivity between narcoterrorism and Islamic radical terrorism could be disastrous in this region,” Admiral James Stavridis, head of the US Southern Command, told a conference on Latin America.

“What I worry about in this region with outside actors coming into it is the potential for those streams to cross, if you will, for the fuel of narcoterrorism to become engaged in Islamic radicalism here in the Americas, here in our home,” he said at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington.

“Today in Latin America there is a competitive environment for us politically,” Stavridis said, alluding to leftist Venezuela’s growing influence across the region. “The United States needs to be a good competitor in this marketplace. We need to show why our ideas are better, are sensible (and) will produce good results,” he said, referring to “capitalism, free trade agreements, human rights, democracy and liberty.” Stavridis’ comments followed President George W. Bush’s warning in Abu Dhabi on Sunday that “Iran’s actions threaten the security of nations everywhere.”

"Administration attempts to concoct link between Iran and drug traffickers in Latin America, in hopes of creating synergy between two popular hysterias sufficient to float 'intervention' against popularly elected left governments there in this post Cold War era."

4. LOL.
You got to admit the picture of Ahm-an-idjit and Morales was a nice touch. Any time you got a pic of two people together, you just know they are in cahoots and up to no good.

6. What is amusing me today, Sir ..
Is the conflict between the constant effort to instill fear while at the same time maintaining an illusion of omnipotent power. It just winds up looking silly.

16. How about "BUSH FLOATS REAGAN RETREAD...AGAIN"
As I recall from college years, it was supposedly the Communists that were in league with the 'cocaine cartels' back then.

Same game, different players.

5. What is this, a video game?
Radical Islamists have NOTHING in common with drug traffickers, unless there is mutual profit in the form of material gain.

In fact, Radical Islamists look upon drugs, sex, and the other vices associated with the drug world as part of Western decadence. I'd doubt they'd hook up and do stuff together.

This is more geared toward making it easier for the United States to convince its always dependably dumb populace to either support its warmaking/interference in Latin America, or look the other way.

7. Oh, they both like the black market money.
But otherwise you are right. Taliban stomped out poppies in Afghanstan, now it's the main grower and exported for the whole world. Although I hear Iraq is on their tail now.

8. US Fears US People will connect past murders in Latin America to murders today
Once the People of the US see the continuum of these activities across the decades, and understand that 9/11 is not when the murderous US activities began, they will want to hang the fascist killers.

10. Dateline 1990: US fears links between Latin America, militants, commies
I found the original script from the Reagan years. They changed a few words. Here is the original article:

==================
US fears links between Latin America, militants, and "Commies"

WASHINGTON: A top US military commander said Wednesday he fears a “disastrous” linkup between communists and and radical leftists in Latin America, where he said "commies" wields growing influence.

“I fear greatly that the connectivity between commies and leftists could be disastrous in this region,” Admiral J. R. Arsewipe, head of the US Southern Command, told a conference on Latin America.

“What I worry about in this region with outside actors coming into it is the potential for those streams to cross, if you will, for the fuel of communism to become engaged in radicalism here in the Americas, here in our home,” he said.

Arsewipe accompanied his comments with a photograph of a commie standing alongside Nicaraguan President Ortega.

“This gentleman is a commies that sponsors terrorism,” he said pointing to the commie leader.

“He is a very dangerous man and he is in this area of the world,” the Arsewipe said, adding that commies had 10 embassies in Latin America.

“He wants to have an embassy in every country in this region,” he added. Earlier, Arsewipe showed another photograph with Morales standing next to presidents Hugo Chavez of Venezuela and Rafael Correa of Ecuador.

At the close of Chavez’ fourth visit to commies in November, they vowed to stand together in defense of their national interests and ideals.

“Today in Latin America there is a competitive environment for us politically,” Arsewipe said, alluding to leftist Venezuela’s growing influence across the region. “The United States needs to be a good competitor in this marketplace. We need to show why our ideas are better, are sensible (and) will produce good results,” he said, referring to “capitalism, free trade agreements, human rights, democracy and liberty.” Arsewipe’s comments followed President Reagan’s warning in Texas that “Commie actions threaten the security of nations everywhere, and Sandinista terrorist will invade Texas any day now.”

How much bull do they expect us to take?

He came up with a brilliant one - combining the War on Drugs with their war on Moslems.

Everytime I hear about their whining about the drug problems in So America, the thought crosses my mind that they are having competitive problems.

Instead of taking this propaganda, let's learn the truth about our involvement in drugs? Not just the token toxic spraying with cameras to show off how our money is spent on their war.

I guess everyone is sworn to secrecy over the two downed cocaine laden aircraft in Mex and who disappeared, and who owned the aircraft, and what Mexico is doing. Nothing coming from that. I assume they were not Moslems, because it's all a tight secret.

15. Have read about one of the planes, and it had been used for rendition flights.
Plane that crashed in Yucatan with 3.2 tons of cocaine was CIA rendition aircraft

WMR has learned from knowledgeable European sources that a Gulfstream II that crash landed 1.3 miles from Tikokob in Yucatan, Mexico after being chased by Mexican military helicopters for flying illegally into Mexican airspace was one of the planes chartered to the CIA for the renditioning of kidnapped prisoners. The crash landing took place on September 24. The tail number of the Gulfstream is N987SA.

Mexican soldiers found no bodies at the crash site but did discover 132 bags containing 3.3 metric tons of cocaine. The origination of the Gulfstream's flight is unknown but it was destined for Cancun when it crash landed. Police later said they had arrested one passenger who was on board the plane.

The operator of the Gulfstream is Donna Blue Aircraft, Inc. of Coconut Creek, Florida. Its address, according to the Florida Division of Corporations, is 4811 Lyons Technology, Coconut Creek, Florida 33073.

It's amazing how quickly these stories zip in and out. We see them, they they disappear, over and over again.

I recall reading that Venezuela decided to invite Bush's DEA agents to get out of Venezuela. I believe they indicated the DEA were corrupt, but can't remember. It doesn't seem all that hard to swallow, in light of what else we've been hearing, going back a very long time, at least to Iran/Contra.
