White House backs aide in Iraq-uranium flap
WASHINGTON (Reuters)

The White House on Wednesday defended a senior aide who took blame for U.S. President George W. Bush's now-discredited charge that Iraq (news - web sites) sought African uranium, but Democrats said Bush must accept responsibility.

White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Bush remained confident in his deputy national security adviser, Stephen Hadley. Hadley said on Tuesday he had overlooked CIA memos casting doubt on the intelligence underlying the uranium charge, which Bush used to bolster his case for invading Iraq. ---

Democratic presidential hopeful Howard Dean insisted that anyone who misled Bush should resign and urged an independent investigation of the disputed charge in Bush's January State of the Union address that Iraq tried to buy African uranium. ---

1. We've learned so much from this uranium ordeal...
in the Shrubya administration you can screw up and instead of getting fired you have everyone immediately voice their support and confidence in you.

WTF?

2. I like that Howard Dean is asking for resignations
The rest of them are asking for an explaination. He is playing a littel harder of hard ball then the rest of the Dems.

3. Ain't gonna happen.
The Prez said its over, move on.

The arrogance level has gone Stratospheric with the Bush Bunch.

Like other despots however, sooner than later, Murphy will pay a visit.

4. Barney confesses
The White House released taped transcripts of Barney the Dog's confession. Speaking through a canine interpreter, Barney the Dog admitted to eating several memos that may have contained warnings NOT to use the African uranium statement in January's State of the Union address.

Barney said he feared for his master's health, and had concerns that George would choke on a pretzel while reading the memos.

The White House supports Barney. Advisors close to the pResident stated that the pResident still likes Barney, and tossed him a bone after completion of the confession. The pResident was heard to say "I consider the matter closed, this is now just poop under the bushes."

Barney refused to answer further questions, although it has been reported by White House sources that Barney does place partial blame on Socks, the former White House Cat.

5. Buddy also implicated
The former first pooch Buddy (now deceased) was also implicated by Barney in the memo-eating incident. According to Barney, Buddy had established a precedent of White House dogs eating potentially smoking gun memos. Barney also claimed that other "Democrat" first dogs were known to snack on memos, including FDR's dog Fala.
