Giuliani says he'd appoint conservative judges By Jeremy Pelofsky
Fri Nov 16, 6:07 PM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani, viewed with suspicion by some in his party for his support of abortion and gay rights, vowed on Friday to put conservatives on the Supreme Court if elected.

Speaking to the Federalist Society, a conservative group that places a heavy emphasis on states' rights, the former New York mayor said he would model his nominations after Supreme Court Justices Samuel Alito and Antonin Scalia, two of the most conservative judges on the highest U.S. court.

"We're seeking to find judges who understand the very, very important concept that judges exist to interpret the law, not amend the law," he told the group. "We believe in the rule of the law, not in the rule of judges."

"Our constitutional principles instruct us that we have to recognize the limitations on power as a way protecting our liberty," said Giuliani, who served as a senior official in the Reagan administration's Justice Department.

He emphasized that the next president would likely appoint some 200 judges to federal courts. He said he would try to convince the U.S. Congress to change its long-standing rules that allow a single U.S. senator to block confirmation of a judicial nominee, a practice that has been used to stymie some of President George W. Bush's nominees.

10. So much for the myth of American constitutional law.
If the law's as fungible as Rudy evidently believes, why bother to have a constitution at all?

Personally, I believe federal judges should be chosen at random, by lottery. Establish a pool of not-insane candidates, build in term limits and recall mechanisms, and let 'er rip.

Take this football out of the hands of our politicians.

Trust me, you don't want to hear how I think they should be chosen. ;-)

5. I'd Rather Have Huckabee
If we can't have a President who supports reproductive freedom and human rights for all, I would prefer one who is at least honest about his opposition to such principles rather than talking out both sides of his mouth.

Even Romney is more trustworthy.

You cannot call yourself Pro-Choice if you intend to appoint reactionary judges who wish to strip away our reproductive freedom. You cannot call yourself a friend of gay rights if you wish to appoint "justices" who do not believe homosexuals deserve all of the rights enumerated in our Constitution.

Hey, Rudy - how are your kids? Say hi to the wives.

12. That's What I Mean
He is saying he is Pro-Choice, but wanting to appoint judges who wish to overturn Roe Vs. Wade.

I hope Pro-Choice people are paying attention that if they elect Giuliani they shouldn't assume they have a friend in the White House. In fact, I would think he would be as disastrous for Reproductive Freedom and Privacy as Dubya.

The Trial (Waters, Bob Ezrin) 5:16

Good morning, Worm your honor.
The crown will plainly show
The prisoner who now stands before you
Was caught red-handed showing feelings
Showing feelings of an almost human nature;
This will not do.
Call the schoolmaster!

I always said he'd come to no good
In the end your honor.
If they'd let me have my way I could
Have flayed him into shape.
But my hands were tied,
The bleeding hearts and artists
Let him get away with murder.
Let me hammer him today?

The evidence before the court is
Incontrivertable, there's no need for
The jury to retire.
In all my years of judging
I have never heard before
Of someone more deserving
Of the full penaltie of law.
The way you made them suffer,
Your exquisite wife and mother,
Fills me with the urge to defecate!

"Hey Judge! Shit on him!"

Since, my friend, you have revealed your
Deepest fear,
I sentence you to be exposed before
Your peers.
Tear down the wall!

11. Rudy will say anything to get elected.
Rudy is all about Rudy. He'll tell anyone anything they want to hear in order to promote himself.

I can't believe ANYONE is taking this guy seriously as a legitimate contender for the Presidency. He makes my skin crawl, he's that much of a weasel. The Republics have found another person out of the George Bush mold as their lead Presidential contender. He's not QUITE as stupid as Bush, but he more than makes up for it with bad taste, corruption and narcissism.

If this country wants 4 more years of a George Bush style corrupt government, Rudy is their man.

14. as the LAW stands now
abortion is legal in all 50 states... so to make it illegal would certainly be amending it, to put it mildly.

15. Of course he would
His pro-choice and gay-rights history was because he was mayor of New York. Just like Mitt Romney's more liberal record in Massachusetts. I'm sure he has no strong feelings one way or the other on those two issues. He will lean which ever way is most politically expedient for him.

16. Keep talking, Rudy.
The more you talk the less likely you'll be elected.

And the 9/11 widows and the NYPD/FD haven't even started on you yet.
