Turkish government draws up motion for Iraq incursion
Source: AFP

ANKARA (AFP) - Turkey moved a step closer Monday to a possible incursion in northern Iraq as the government sought parliament's approval for military action against Kurdish rebel bases, despite US opposition.

Ankara hopes it will not be forced to resort to military action, Deputy Prime Minister Cemil Cicek told reporters after a cabinet meeting, shortly before a motion was formally submitted to parliament.

"We hope that there will be no reason to use the authorisation, we hope there will be no need for that," he said.

The motion seeks a one-year authorisation for a military operation in northern Iraq, where an estimated 3,500 rebels of the separatist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) are based.

"We hope that there will be no reason to use the authorisation". Yeah, that's the ticket! :sarcasm:

3. More death and destruction...
brought to you by the chaos of the Criminal Bush. Bush's
invasion and occupation of Iraq is not only an act of treason
and a war crime; it is a source of instability, which allows
Turkey to do what they have wonted to do for a long time,
attack the Kurds.

Turkey could paralyze critical supply lines to Iraq

WASHINGTON — The Bush administration is concerned that Turkey could block vital U.S. supply routes to Iraq.
Seventy percent of the fuel and air shipments to the U.S. military in Iraq are currently routed through Turkey.

Officials said the Defense Department and U.S. military believe Ankara could retaliate to a U.S. House resolution that blamed Turkey for the killing of 1.5 million Armenians in World War I. They said Ankara could block weapons and supplies to the U.S. military in Iraq.

Maybe Turkey wants to relive the glory days
during the fall of the Ottoman Empire.

This is there chance to put a big hurt on the Kurds and the US military.
They have people in the middle east hoping it plays out that way.
AND
There are people in the US who would love to have this scenario play out in order to gain a few political 'points'in the polls.

Stay tuned

7. Turkey Forms Alliance With Iran Against Kurds
snip

Unlike earlier Iranian Kurdish guerilla groups, PJAK has integrated women into both its political and military wing.

For example, on Sept. 10, PJAK launched a reprisal attack against a Revolutionary Guards base near Shaho, in northwestern Iran, that was coordinated by a female guerilla fighter, said Arsham Kurdman, the head of the PJAK women’s movement.

Twelve Iranian troops were killed during that particular attack, she told Newsmax, while PJAK had no losses.

War materiel captured during that attack is now being used by PJAK fighters inside Iran, she added.

Syria has a minority of Kurds in their country so I guess they will offer 'moral' support to their neighbors upcomming glorious campaign.

Putin throws his support to the mullahs. Lucky for them the Kurds have no airforce to challenge the Russian air defense systems ;)
