Source: CNN

Just on TV.

It was a commercial solvent. Apparently there was paperwork nearby that made them think it was poison gas vials.

1. Gee. I'm shocked
Earlier reports said they were some nasty chemical weapons from Iraq in 1996. Apparently Saddam was stockpiling Pinesol.

10. You know, I was just in my garage...
and saw a bucket filled with liquid that I couldn't identify, yet nearby it was a pamphlet for DDT.

I was terrified!!! I ran around the room screaming and yelling, flailing my arms in the air!!! What in gods name should I do???

In walks my wife. She looks at me like I'm crazy. I tell her what happened. She looks at the can and from the very obvious streaks of paint on the outside determined that it was paint and the ddt pamphlet was actually an old national geographic from the 1950's.

Whew, was I relieved. My wife however thinks I tend to over react to things. I beg to differ!

:banghead:

it appears as of the fucking idiots that are supposed to keep us safe are looking for any excuse what so ever to find something to do. Can't we just fire these fucking assholes?

21. Just so you know
DDT is not very toxic to humans. You have nothing to worry about with handling the DDT. Now, its effect on the ecosystem is devastating because of its effect on the food chain, and THAT is why it is no longer used.

Windex of Mass Destruction
By Mike Nizza

On the same day that nuclear warheads were mistakenly flying across the nation, the Web quaked for Weapons of Mass Destruction news of a different sort: “Nerve gas” was found at the United Nations in the offices of weapons inspectors who searching Iraq.

Minutes later, the story deflated when the substance in question — phosgene — was rightly identified as a chemical agent.

Today, the story deflated almost completely. According to The Daily News, tests have revealed that the liquid is not phosgene either. Rather, it “may be nothing worse than a cleaning solvent.”

Not that household cleaners aren’t dangerous as well. “In case your mom didn’t tell you, mixing bleach and ammonia can kill you,” About.com advises. The combination results in the release of chlorine gas, which causes “acute damage in the upper and lower respiratory tract” when inhaled.

31. Substance found at United Nations not toxic, police say
Source: CNN.com

NEW YORK (CNN) -- A substance removed from the United Nations office last week is not a toxic chemical agent, police and a U.N. official told CNN on Thursday.

Tests at a military facility in Maryland identified the substance as a nontoxic commercial solvent, said Paul J. Brown, deputy commissioner of the New York City Police Department.

In late August, U.N. archivists unexpectedly turned up samples of material from an Iraqi chemical weapons plant in 1996.

Accompanying paperwork identified the substance as phosgene, a choking agent used in World War I.

So, this is how we got involved in Irag?

"Look! Look! Vats FULL of phosgene! Or Pine-Sol! Phosgene! Pine-Sol! Pine-Sol-scented phosgene!

Yeah, that's it..."

35. When oh when will the insidious, lying, neo-con
Edited on Fri Sep-07-07 10:24 AM by igil
conspiracy known as the UN stop lying to us? When can we finally rid ourselves of such a perfidious organization, where they even lie to each other, either intentionally--or, even worse, incompetently--planting false documentation in their files, so that we don't know if we're looking at a cleaner or a toxic agent?

Was Blix involved in this? Perhaps they took the *real* phosgene. Perhaps they have all the WMD that Blix identified as unaccounted for. And it's a vast conspiracy to take over the world, and place it under the Ban. Or maybe it was an Annanal conspiracy, foiled at its source.

"In late August, U.N. archivists unexpectedly turned up samples of material from an Iraqi chemical weapons plant in 1996.

"Accompanying paperwork identified the substance as phosgene, a choking agent used in World War I."

Of sourse, perhaps it was a CIA operation? Or maybe an KCIA, an NKCIA, a PNKCIA, or maybe even a--dare we think it--OPNAADNKCIA(b) operation?.

Of course, we can't rule out that the inspectors sniffed actual cleaning agent, confused it with phosphene (some cleaners can be very, very potent), and filed at such.

So perhaps Saddam's true goal was simply to clean our clocks ... and floors and windows?

:sarcasm:
