Al Qaeda videos found in Iraq weapons raid
- snip -

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- U.S. forces operating in the so-called Sunni Triangle -- the region of Iraq most loyal to captured former dictator Saddam Hussein -- found a significant weapons cache that included al Qaeda literature and videotapes, the U.S. military said Tuesday.

Members of Task Force Ironhorse 2nd Infantry's Arrowhead Brigade discovered the material Monday morning at a site in Samarra, about 65 miles north-northwest of Baghdad. Some of the items were found hidden in a false wall, the military said.

The troops also found a British-made body armor plate with a bullet hole. U.S. Central Command said it was an indication that insurgents were testing the ceramic plate's ability to withstand expended anti-personnel ammunition.

In addition to the al Qaeda literature and videos, the troops found nearly 8,000 rounds of ammunition; 160 mortar rounds and six mortar tubes; 43 rocket-propelled grenade launchers and 79 rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs); and 19 AK-47 assault rifles, as well as dozens of other weapons.

I guess instead of planting WMDs, they planted something a bit more convenient

3. How utterly credible
What sort of Al Qaeda literature was this? Did they find the ever-popular "Al Qaeda is for Lovers" bumper stickers or was it the more religious-themed "Osama said it, I believe it, and that settles it" variety? Or maybe some more puppy-torturing videos?

Quit trying to choke me, CNN. I just can't swallow it whole.

7. How long has it been there?
Since we invaded Iraq? Seems to be a nest involved in fighting the invaders. Why wouldn't they have al qaeda literature?

Al qaeda brought America to its knees. If my country had been invaded by the Americans, I'd want to read up on al qaeda.

27. Now that's a logical point
We have heard many reports of al qaeda flocking to Iraq from other countries since the invasion. Surely they will have brought along a little something to read.

28. Al qaeda brought America to its knees?
Not in my America. Why would you want to read up on al qaeda? Their terrorism is nothing special. They are trash.

Now THEY know how to terrorize - both at home and abroad.

6. I would remind the military that the IRA accepted aid from the Nazis
against the Brits. If the bad guys are the only ones willing to help, you welcome them with open arms.

This just reinforces the arguments of those who say Bush did not strike at the source of terrorism in invading Iraq, he created a whole new one.

And our soldiers keep dying because of BushCo's lies.

17. And Gandi...
tried to get the Japanese to invade India, and to get Indian troops to not serve against the Nazis and Japanese, and encouraged Indian troops to surrender to the Japanese and Germans rather than fight them...
The Nazis attempted to recruit Indian troops into the SS as the 'Azad Hind' division using quotations from Gandi...

9. My jaw dropped,...
,...when another individual exposed this to me. My first thought really was that they planted something more convenient than WMDs,...they planted it IN THE MEDIA.

We are dealing with a propaganda machine beyond any ever known. Hell, instead of the constitution, I sometimes imagine these freaks carrying Goebbels passages in their pockets. It is absolutely beyond whatever free world is left.

12. Well, it looks like Al Qaeda has found another home.
And the insurgents have found some friends. Bush is quite the matchmaker.

There is no suggestion in the article that this is anything but a post-war link between Iraq and Al Qaeda. If they any evidence of that, it would be all over the place.

30. They're getting really really good at this. Solid journalism.
1 quoted source in the entire story.

"Dr. Iyad Allawi, who is heading security issues at the Iraqi council, told two Arabic newspapers Monday that Saddam is giving the "names of people who know the location of hidden arsenals used in terrorist attacks."

Very credible source I dare say and all from a man found in a hole who'd been running and hiding for months.

Plus this lovely bit: "The military did not say how it found out about the weapons, but a member of the Iraq Governing Council has said in recent days that Saddam has begun giving interrogators information about weapons arsenals used by insurgents to attack coalition forces."

Guess capturing Saddam did make us safer.

And the Al Qaeda literature, very convenient.
