France says it's time for new Iraq resolution
France says it's time for new Iraq resolution
Agence France-Presse
United Nations, July 23

France said on Tuesday it would support a new UN resolution on Iraq as long as such a resolution backed "a true international partnership" to help rebuild the war-torn country.
Washington however continues to assert that an existing resolution already provides an adequate framework for countries wishing to participate in Iraq's affairs.

Resolution 1483, approved by the Security Council May 22, defines the UN's role in Iraq, which is currently limited to humanitarian aid and political advice under the current US-British management of the country.

"France remains convinced that everyone would win if a true international partnership was put in place, and a global approach to the security, political and economic problems was overseen by the United Nations," said Jean-Marc de La Sabliere, France's UN envoy, during the open debate here.

US officials participating in the debate said Resolution 1483 remains valid.

1. If U.S. (Bush) was smart they would take France up on this.
I suspect that there are other reasons, why the U.S. does not want the U.N. involved or a multilateral solution, oil and a U.S. base in Iraq being two of them. If the U.S. continues the present course, I think U.S. citizens will revolt against Bush in 2004.

Dean in 2004.

2. True democracy in Iraq is another.
Bush wants that to happen in Iraq about as much as he wants a picture of himself snorting cocaine during his 'growing up' period to surface. Can't have the irrelevant UN coming along and actually allowing democracy in Iraq.

3. i watched convicted criminal Chalabi
at the UN today, covered by the networks, in an expensive suit introduced as "the Head of the Iraqi Governing Council".

What an abomination and insult to the Iraqi people. Fuc*ing sickening.

5. Don't worry.

Chalabi has said he doesn't want to be president of Iraq. Based on his history, I believe he's someone you can trust. After all, he ran a bank in Jordan (never mind the $20 million embezzlement) that failed, and look at how useful the intelligence he provided to us on Iraq's WMD program was. This guy is aces.

6. Perhaps Mr Chalabi will receive the "Najibullah" treatment
once the US turns it's back. If I were him, I wouldn't go out by myself.

4. The revolt has already begun
Chimpy is on the run, why else are they spending so much time on this 16 words deal? They know that they did a world class shit-the-public on Iraq, and the public is getting wise.

Somehow, it appears that they didn't expect that anybody would care if a few grunts got shot afterwards, as long as gas got cheap fast.
Well, people do seem to care -- at least the press seems to care , and gas isn't any cheaper. So, we have the start of a revolt.
