The violence will never end in Iraq.
The capture of Saddam "surprise" had a minimal impact.

1. Saddam capture could have hurt Bush in the long run ....
it just raised people's hopes and they're quickly getting dashed

2. Does this make 8 in the past 2 days?
Christmas Day and Boxing Day?

I'm losing count, and they don't make it easy by putting dates on when the guys were killed.

4. I count 8 over the past THREE days
4 on Wednesday, to wit:

3 - Task Force Ironhorse killed by IED near Samarra; 1 - unit not identified, IED attack, Baghdad

2 on Thursday, to wit:

2 - Taskforce Ironhorse killed in mortar attack, Bacquba

2 on Friday, to wit:

1 - killed by IED near Bacquba; 1 - killed defusing a bomb in same area

That's eight total for Wednesday (12/24), Thursday (12/25), and Friday (12/26).

5. And if you consider that they spend most of their time
behind giant concrete blast proof bunkers, makes it more telling.

When they venture forth they are shot at and blown up with roadside bombs.

We are captives in their country. They have us surrounded if you stop and think about it. We've already lost. Its just a matter of how many are killed before we leave and they adopt an extremist islamic form of government with Sharia law and a philosophy more akin to Osama than the secular brute Saddam.

And this is progress?

Only in Wolfowitz's addled brain is this a move in the "right" direction.

9. that's a good point about the concrete bunkers
it isn't like these troops spend all day mingling
with the people

7. Christmas presents from Bush
This is really sad. The spin that resistance is being directed by Saddam and that it is being waged by Saddam loyalists is played out. The reality that we are entrenched in an winnable guerrilla insurgency is going to hit home to the rest of the American public over the next few months. Those who opposed this war new we would be hit this point all along)
