Son of Iraqi vice president survives bomb attack

BAGHDAD, May 12 (Xinhua) -- The son of the Iraqi Vice President Tariq al-Hashimi survived a roadside bomb attack near his car in western Baghdad on Saturday, an Interior Ministry source

"A roadside bomb went off near the car of Ahmed Tariq al-Hashimi, son of Sunni vice president, in the Amriyah neighborhood," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The vice president's son was seriously wounded in the blast and was transferred to Ibn Sina Hospital, which is run by the U.S. troops, the source said.

Three of Hashimi's siblings, two brothers and one sister, were allegedly killed by Shiite death squads in 2006.
