Cheney pokes fun at Bush, Gore during journalists' yearly dinner
Romney jokes about his faith
By Associated Press | April 1, 2007

WASHINGTON -- Vice President Dick Cheney poked fun at his boss's relationship with the press corps as he spoke to a gathering of Washington journalists last night.

"The president is really sorry he couldn't be here tonight, but he had another obligation," Cheney said. "His book club is meeting."

President Bush traditionally attends the annual Gridiron Club dinner but was conferring with Brazil's president at Camp David yesterday. Instead, Cheney was the night's final speaker.

He took a few lighthearted jabs at his predecessor, noting that former vice president Al Gore's house uses an above-average amount of energy. "Many argue that global warming is manmade," Cheney said, "and it looks like they found the man."

2. "And looks like they found the man"
That's the president of vice through and through. Perpetuating lies about a man several notches above him in the ethics and morality scale.

Unless, of course, there was a mirror in front of his mic when he said that!

7. Why on Earth do the journalists have a "dinner" for the president?
Aren't they supposed to have a different role? Like critical investigators? Or is that the fiction that Colbert kicked them with???

WASHINGTON (AP) - Vice President Dick Cheney poked fun at his boss' relationship with the press corps as he spoke to a gathering of Washington journalists Saturday night.

"The president is really sorry he couldn't be here tonight, but he had another obligation," Cheney said. "His book club is meeting."

14. To quote Stewart: If Jeffrey Dahmer came to your Bar Mitzvah and made jokes...
They are beyond the pale - and so is the media fawning over them.

16. I'll admit
I got a few good chuckles out of bush's stand-up. Cheney's, on the other hand, sounds atrocious. The MSN swarms around Kerry when he botched a joke, but when Cheney botches a war and an entire stand-up routine, they look the other way.

17. Rham Emanuel was there too
"I know what many of you are thinking -- how did this happen to the Gridiron?'' Emanuel said. "The Republicans send a top-tier nominee for president. The Democrats send you Nancy Pelosi's valet.

"Before I forget, I want to take a minute and wish happy 59th birthday to Al Gore,'' Emanuel said. "It's a mixed day for Al -- on one hand, he refuses to have birthday candles because they cause global warming. On the other hand, he loves cake.

"Actually, Nancy gave me two very important tasks as soon as she became speaker,'' Emanuel said:

"Sit down and shut up.''

I did like Cheney's joke that he hated to get dressed up in a tux - no room for his shoulder holster.
