Star Trek Enterprise designer dies
BBC story here.

<snip>
Walter "Matt" Jefferies, the art director who designed the original Enterprise vessel for the first Star Trek series has died, the official website of the sci-fi series has announced.

His design of the NCC-1701, as it was designated in the first series, has become one of the most iconic images of 1960s television.

1. Sad.
Did they name Jefferies Tubes after him? I always wondered about that.

3. I bought 3 original sketches of his last year (set designs for Star Trek)
Sad to hear he's gone.

I just last week got around to picking out mats and frames for them.

I got seriously outbid on the sketches of the shuttle craft, and couldn't come close to winning the Enterprise sketches.

5. Its a sad day for starship doodlers.
I've doodled starships on just about every notebook or pad of paper I've ever owned.

God Speed, Mr. Jefferies.

7. So did I, in my Bible
when I was around 14 years old. I found an old blue Oxford Bible I had back in my southern kid days and in it I drew a crude version of the Enterprise. I also wrote in it Go Apollo 'cause that was when we "landed on the moon". Pretty funny. Last night I was watching "Raintree County". Long move but goold ole Dr. McCoy was in it as a rebel.

9. I wonder if he's going to be buried in space?
There's an organization called Celestis that puts a portion of your cremated remains on a rocket and shoots you into space. One of the guys who discovered Hale/Bopp did it a few years ago.

He was a pioneer! Farewell.

10. His work is at the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum
(saw it when I went to DC for the protest). That's no mean feat! May the Big Bird of the galaxy lay an egg for him!
