(AFP) Clinton to Bush: no attack on Iran without Congress approval
Clinton to Bush: no attack on Iran without Congress approval

Wed Feb 14, 11:48 PM ET

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US Senator Hillary Clinton has warned President George W. Bush
against going to war against Iran without the approval of Congress.

Clinton said the Bush administration would be wrong to assume it could attack Iran based
on the 2001 Congress resolution allowing force against those responsible for the September
11 attacks and a 2002 vote authorizing war against Iraq.

"It would be a mistake of historical proportion if the administration thought that the 2002
resolution authorizing force against Iraq was a blank check for the use of force against
Iran without further congressional authorization," Clinton said in the Senate.

"Nor should the president think that the 2001 resolution authorizing force after the
terrorist attacks of 9/11 in any way authorizes force against Iran," she said.

"If the administration believes that any, any use of force against Iran is necessary, the
president must come to Congress to seek that authority," she said.

3. She wants to be able to vote for force, I guess.
At least that would be the summation you would feel if you listen to her speeches concerning Iran. They (speeches) sound very bush like.

She just uses inflammatory language and refers to the Iranian government as "the regime" (sound familiar?). And of course how they are the foremost terrorism sponsor in the world (I gather because of Hizbollah). So she sounds constantly like a war drum beater. I'm not standing up for Iran, just offering a noted way of how she addresses the issue. Therefore, would she be for preemption?

6. Now, we wait for her to give it
Please Hillary, GO AWAY.

You are such an OBVIOUS, PANDERING, TITLE-HUNGRY FRAUD.

You screwed up and gave Buschco a blank check to destroy the US military, treasury and image.

You DON'T get a do-over for that. Sorry.

Especially when you spend the rest of your time since the poor decision equivocating and making excuses.

Sorry Hill, I thought many moons ago you could be great. Sadly, you got run over by your own ambitions and instincts to pander.

10. Should actually be "no war unless congress says so", NOT "authorization"
Edited on Thu Feb-15-07 08:32 AM by harun
we need to move away from this authorization nonsense.

If one actually reads the constitution, it is easy to see the problem:

ARTICLE 1, SECTION 8

The Congress shall have Power:

To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;

To raise and support Armies, but no Appropriation of Money to that Use shall be for a longer Term than two Years;

To provide and maintain a Navy;

To make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval Forces;

To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;

To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress....

ARTICLE II, SECTION 2

The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States....

He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur....

We are not even remotely close to following this. Down with the Emperor viva la Constitution!

11. Well now that should get Karl aned Dick and Geroge all upset...
NOT....I am just imagining this but does anyone really think that these guys after hearing Hillary make this speech sat down and said Oh you know she's right get someone on this right away so when we are going to war we can get Hillary and the Senate to go along with us. They are setting up a GUlf of TOnkin episode. THey are making the Iranian seem like the ones who are responsible for killing Americans they are getting it out to the collective consciousness of the US public that the Iranians should be killed because they are killing Americans. No matter what is going on the process is clear get the big headline "IRANIANS ARE KILLING OUR GREAT AN GLOURIOUS SOLDIERS" then the next day (as in the LA times today...Oh well maybe we can't prve they are killing them but someone is doing it and we think it is the IRanians and now a lot more Americans think it's the Iranians as well. We will get back to you with anohter misleading headline next week around the time that the Congress gets ready to pass the non-binding resolution agaisnt the surge.
