KISMAYU, Somalia, Feb 11 (Reuters) - An explosion killed at least four people
in Somalia on Sunday and wounded 24 others including senior military officers
and regional leaders at a ceremony in a southern port, witnesses said.

"I saw two dead clan elders, one dead civilian and one government soldier,"

2. Mortar kills 2 in Somali capital
MOGADISHU, Somalia - A mortar slammed into a home in Somalia's restive capital early Monday, killing a father and his 6-year-old son as they slept and wounding four people, witnesses said.

"We were sleeping when a heavy explosion rocked our house; it landed on the roof of our balcony," said Shamsa Ahmed, whose father and brother were killed.

Somalia's Deputy Defense Minister Salad Ali Jelle said authorities were searching for suspects.

"This is a cowardly attack," Jelle said. "Government troops will crack down these terrorists elements."

The attack came just hours after a march in Kismayo that drew thousands in support of peacekeepers ended in violence. An explosion went off as the army chief prepared to address the rally and government troops fired into the crowd in response; at least five people were killed.
