CNN: Senator Tim Johnson making 'encouraging and steady' progress in recovery

Johnson making 'encouraging and steady' progress in recovery

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. Tim Johnson of South Dakota is making "encouraging and steady progress" as he recovers from a brain hemorrhage and subsequent surgery last month, his office said Thursday.

"Senator Johnson is showing evidence of more functional, spontaneous speech and is indicating preferences," said Philip Marion, medical director for the Department of Rehabilitative Medicine at George Washington University Hospital, in a written statement. "He is answering questions and following commands appropriately."

Johnson remains in the hospital's in-patient rehabilitation unit. He was transferred out of the intensive care unit earlier this month.

While discussing the names of family members with a speech therapist, Johnson offered the name of his youngest grandson, Cooper, when the therapist could not recall it, the statement said.

"He is watching movies with his family and requested to have his television set to CNN during the day. Johnson is also following the Colts' progress in the NFL playoffs and rooting for South Dakota native Adam Vinatieri," it said....

3. Good. Get his ass back to work.
I'm sure he wants back in the game. He's missing the fun of very unhappy opposition.

16. He definitely deserves a chance to help as his party puts the country back together,
after such a nasty, completely destructive interruption.

Best wishes, and get well soon, Senator Johnson.

Until the last election, Senator Johnson was the only member of Congress who had a child serving in Iraq.

Staff sgt. Brooks Johnson, eldest son of Senator Tim Johnson.

19. Don't read this post
I have a very snarky comment to make, so I'll post it in white so the easily offended don't read it by accident:

It would seem that Sen. Johnson has been upgraded from Thurmond to Brownback. Continued improvement will go through the stages of Hatch, Lieberman, Chaffee and then full recovery.
