Saudi child hangs himself imitating Saddam's execution
Riyadh, Jan 8 (DPA) In a third incident of its kind, a 12-year-old Saudi boy accidentally hanged himself while imitating the way former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein was executed, media reports said Monday.

Sultan Abdulla al-Shammari hanged himself Sunday in an annexe at his home in Hafr al-Baten, close to the Iraqi border, Saudi Arabia's Okaz newspaper reported.

Sultan's brother came back from the mosque to find him hanging from a rope that he had fixed on an iron door. Two of his younger brothers were sitting helpless beside the dead body.

The older brother unhooked Sultan and took him to the hospital but the child was already dead.

1. Isn't this at least the third child to hang himself, in imitation of Saddam's hanging?
:(

2. Sometimes I'm just amazed
at the stupidity involved in peoples actions, I know they're kids but for the love of God. At 12 I knew that dropping myself with a rope around my neck would probably not result in anything positive.

3. That's a pretty shallow observation, perhaps there is more to it.
Weren't the children the only ones able to cry out that the Emperor wore no clothes?

4. Another one? By my count this is number four.
Either Saddam was--unknown to almost everyone--a cult hero among young teens the world over, or these stories are bullshit.

As far as imitating hanging, most of us here at DU grew up watching westerns. Lotsa hangin's in westerns, but at least in my circle of friends as much as we liked the spaghetti westerns, we never tried to "experience" gettin' lynched.

Some of us who grew up in the south have seen the real thing, and again, didn't want any part of that.

9. You know what? You're absolutely right.
We saw hangings in movies right and left as kids. Never hanged ourselves. But then, we also came out of public school able to read and write.

6. It's a good thing they don't broadcast The Passion of the Christ
Kids would be nailing themselves to 2x4's.

7. This is why I only let my kids watch porno flicks . . .
I figure, if the child is going to ape the action on the screen, I'd rather they watch porno than Passion of the Christ or King of Kings. Because I don't want my kids to grow up and murder a Christ, which is what they're taught in those flicks. Nobody ever gets murdered in a schtup flick, not even slapped around.

8. Maybe not murdered...
But believe me - there's plenty of 'slapping around' etc in some porn..
