Iran exile says Tehran steps up efforts in Iraq

WASHINGTON, Jan 5 (Reuters) - Iran has sharply increased its efforts to fan sectarian violence in Iraq in recent months, easily transferring money and arms across the Iraqi border, an opponent of the Tehran government said on Friday.

Alireza Jafarazadeh, who accurately disclosed key details about Iran's nuclear program in 2002, gave names, locations and logistics he said were associated with Iranian operations in neighboring Iraq, which includes providing roadside bombs that have killed U.S. forces.

Jafarazadeh spoke at a news conference organized by the Iran Policy Committee, a U.S. group pushing for regime change in Iran. He said his information came from Iran-based members of the People's Mujahideen, which seeks to topple Iran's fundamentalist government and is on the U.S. list of extremist organizations.

Iran denies that it is fueling sectarian violence or the anti-U.S. insurgency in Iraq.

However, retired U.S. Air Force General Thomas McInerney, a policy committee member said Jafarazadeh's presentation was "powerful evidence" that Iran has become the primary killer of U.S. forces in Iraq.

1. Curveball Redux....
I am inclined to believe this is actually happening ... but is that the point ?

IF the US didnt have such a fucked up occupation policy in Iraq, would US soldiers be targetted by ANYONE ? ....

With all the bellicose belligerence coming from BushCo towards Iran, one might think they are intentionally trying to instigate war with Iran ....

But the US ISNT READY to fight such a war ..... Are they THAT fucking stupid as to start a war they cannot fight ?

3. The language is troubling
"However, retired U.S. Air Force General Thomas McInerney, a policy committee member said Jafarazadeh's presentation was "powerful evidence" that Iran has become the primary killer of U.S. forces in Iraq."

That definitely sounds like war-mongering propaganda of the trail-balloon sort. Bush may be intent on going after Iran during his remaining time, regardless of the cost.

(snip)

"Gen. McInerney is a military analyst for Fox News Channel and is a guest on many nationally-syndicated radio talk shows, and has co-authored a book entitled The Endgame, Winning the War on Terror."

6. Background material from the Washington Post on Alireza Jafarzadeh
"Alireza Jafarzadeh , 49, is the longtime Washington spokesman for the National Council of the Resistance of Iran, the political wing of the Mujaheddin-e Khalq, an anti-regime militant group supported for years by Saddam Hussein. MEK has been on the State Department's list of terrorist organizations since 1997. In 2002, Jafarzadeh and the group announced details of Iran's previously unknown nuclear program. With NCRI's Washington office shut down since 2003, Jafarzadeh has reinvented himself as an expert commentator on Iran's nuclear program. The MEK is reviled by Iran but it has support from the Iran Policy Committee, a group of conservative retired U.S. military officers and Reagan-era officials, who say Washington should work with the MEK to overthrow the Tehran regime."

9. Some Facts .......
The People's Mujahedeen is known by several names, such as National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), Mujahedeen e Khalq (MEK), People's Mujahedeen Organization of Iran, National Liberation Army of Iran.

The People's Mujahedeen has been listed as a terrorist organization in the United States since 1997. The European Union also placed the group on its terror watch list in 2001.

The People's Mujahedeen was placed on the Canidian Terrorist list in May 2005.

Alireza Jafarazadeh is deeply involved in the founding, and implementation of all of the above so called 'organizations' acts....

Besides 'Google'....... a good source for learning what these groups have been up to is Scott Ritter's recent book "Target Iran' (The Truth about the White House plans for Regime Change) In fact Alireza Jafarazadeh is discussed at the beginning of Mr. Ritter's book as being deeply involved in the 'misinformation' campaign against Iran and throughout the book .... Peace.

K&R. for the heads up.
