Turmoil in Hastert's Office as Key Staff Prepare to Testify
October 23, 2006 1:37 PM

http://blogs.abcnews.com/theblotter/2006/10/turmoil_in_hast.html

Top aides to Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) are expected to testify this week in the House Ethics Committee investigation of the Foley page scandal. Hastert may also appear, according to Chicago Sun-Times political reporter Lynn Sweet.

The investigation of how the Republican leadership handled the issue has provoked turmoil and finger-pointing in Hastert's office, congressional sources say.

(Says many of his top aids have hired their own legal representation.)

3. Fuck this "scandal"
Let's investigate the real Hastert scandals: Abramoff, corruption, etc. Those are far worse and if Hastert hadn't been so interested in lining his own pockets, he might have paid some attention to the Foley matter.

17. They're only pretending to be gay, so that when they get caught for something...
Edited on Mon Oct-23-06 04:41 PM by IanDB1
they can use their alleged homosexuality as a distraction.

In real life, all these guys actually dig chicks.

"The money? The bribery? Hey... did I mention I'm gay?"

The whole "closeted gay republican" thing is just a scam.

These dudes are just straight guys pretending to be gay.

I think some of them started it during the 1960s and 1970s when people were getting drafted, and they just sort of stuck with it.

4. I agree with one of the on-site posters.
What difference does it make if the Speaker learned of this in November of '05 or March of '02? He still covered it up after learning of it - whether it was for 3 years or just one. How is it better, except in the eyes of Spinpublicans, if he covered it up only for one year instead of for three? :eyes:

5. Did John Boehner finally testify? Did he do it under oath like the staff did?
I thought that John Boehner was to have testified last week. Did he do so?

And more importantly, is John Boehner to testify under oath as the staffers all have?

And also, shouldn't pressure be made to ask if Hastert will also "be under oath" when he testifies since he disputes the charges by staffers?

7. Good questions. I haven't seen much coverage of this.
answering those questions. Cheney, Bush and Condi all managed not to have to be under oath..so I wonder if Boehner and Hastert would request the same. Maybe someone here has heard more.

20. It's not the pages
they are fine. (hate to break the news but creeps are all over). It's the cover-up and hypocrisy and the lies.
