GM Likely To Hire 115 Temp Workers (OH)
POSTED: 10:32 am EDT October 5, 2006
UPDATED: 10:42 am EDT October 5, 2006

LORDSTOWN, Ohio -- General Motors wants to hire 115 temporary workers at its Lordstown complex near Youngstown.

The automaker said they're needed because the plant is losing about 1,600 employees through a buyout and early retirement program.

The Detroit office of the United Auto Workers must approve GM's request, and a local union official said a decision should come within the next week.

A GM spokesman said the company is examining whether the plant will eventually need to hire permanent employees to fill in gaps.

In the meantime, the automaker is looking to fill the temp positions with workers being displaced from other GM plants, or workers from Delphi who are coming back to GM, the parts company's former parent.

Hmmm......get rid of workers, then hire others back cheaper...

5. Oh I know. I've personally reveled in the glories of temphood myself.
The sad thing is there will probably be thousands of applications for this piddling number of jobs.
