CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- A state senator said he is evaluating whether to continue his bid for a second term after a Charleston television station aired revealing pictures of him last week.

''My family has urged me not to withdraw from the election and I will work with them to make a decision in the immediate future,'' State Sen. Randy White, a Webster County Democrat, said in a letter to newspapers in his district.

An apologetic White also wrote that he was ''shocked'' and ''horribly embarrassed'' after WCHS-TV aired photos depicting him and at least two other men wearing only body paint.

''The pictures were taken approximately two years ago in private and were stolen from my personal computer,'' said White, 51, a married father of three. ''I am not sure why they were given to the media, but I must assume for obvious political reasons.'

Just for the record, I'm gay myself, so my comments were not a slam at someone who is gay, or is wrestling with the possibility of being gay.

A photo of a nude guy all painted up doesn't scream "CLOSET GAY" to me, but his comments trying to explain the photo were odd enough to make me wonder. One of those cases where he should have just kept his explanations to himself because he's just digging a bigger hole every time he opens his mouth.

But this is so typical of repressed conservatives (I'm speaking culturally rather than politcally) -- the possibility of being non-conformist fills them with terror and angst. As an old lady, I feel like shaking my finger at him and saying "So you're a little different. Get over it. Paint yourself blue and howl at the moon. You'll feel a LOT better."

"men's movement" and "male identity" stuff that was kind of big a few years back. There were a bunch of books ('Iron John' and 'Fire in the Belly' come to mind), and guys would go on retreats to the forest to bang drums around campfires and get in touch with their inner wildman. Pretty hoky stuff, but it could explain why a couple of guys would be running around in body paint but still be "non-sexual."

Sorry some people are freaked out by nudity. Were the men cheating on their wives at the time? What is the larger context here? What a total bullshit story! Yesterday someone posted an old school picture of Bush in a chorus line wearing a dress...couldn't that picture be used in exactly the same way, if the writer is willing to leave out pertinent details and context? The sloppy reporting only underscores the suspicion that this is just an unfortunate political dirty trick.

All that being said, some memories maybe better left to the camera in your mind, and not committed to film (or hard drive). Especially if you think you may bee running for high office at some point. :)
