Before a cheering crowd of hundreds, the Rev. Jesse Jackson vowed to return to North Charleston on Dec. 16 for a "major demonstration" aimed at drawing attention to the Goose Creek police drug raid at Stratford High School and the shooting death by North Charleston police officers of a mentally ill black man who shoplifted meat from a grocery store.

Jackson arrived Thursday in response to outcry from members of the community, including black leaders and parents concerned over the Nov. 5 drug search of students at Stratford High School.
