Santorum withdraws tax break claim for Penn Hills house
Edited on Tue Sep-26-06 04:28 PM by RamboLiberal
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06269/725181-100.stm

U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum no longer claims a contentious property tax exemption on a home in suburban Pittsburgh, according to Allegheny County real estate records.

The change came before Allegheny County Council was scheduled to vote on legislation calling for strengthened oversight -- and in some cases prosecution -- of property owners who improperly claim a "homestead exemption."

The exemption is a property-tax break that can only be claimed on a primary residence. It is worth about $70 a year.

Mr. Santorum has a home in the Pittsburgh suburb of Penn Hills and one in Virginia, where he and his family live most of the year.

In a letter dated Sept. 18, Mr. Santorum requested that county officials remove his name from the tax-exemption list. Mr. Santorum wrote that his Penn Hills home is his primary residence and that he qualifies for the exemption, but that he was voluntarily giving it up.

Gee would you call a house you live in maybe at most 30 days a year (and actually rented out till caught) your Primary residence? Liar! You got caught Ricky with your sticky fingers in the taxpayer's cookie jar.

6. Seems it would be easy to challenge his residency now
Would be more satisfying to beat the shit out of him in the election, though.

I want his constituents to see they are in the minority in Pennsylvania.

8. Congratulations to Democracy for Pittsburgh. This victory...
was a result of their Homestead Tax Petition campaign last year.
D.A's office to probe Santorum tax break

I alway got a kick out of the first part of that Pittsburgh Post-Gazette headline -

D.A.'s office to probe Santorum

12. Why
would you make all this fuss to get back $70?? "Rich" people alway confuse me, this seems like such a pittance in the grand scheme of things. I understand this is supposed to help fixed-income people but if I was well off why would I even bother filing to get this??? Sounds very similar to the "rag" magazines ploy to send rich stars fictitious checks for a couple of dollars and then publishing the ones who cashed them to show how frigging cheap they are.

Believe me Santorum deserves all the flack for taking this: one for saying this is his primary residence and two for the trivial amount of money he got from it.

17. That's what gets me, too
All for a lousy $70 exemption. I wonder if the hassle and trouble alone were worth $70 to Mr. Santorum? And yet some people will still vote for him even when he's exposed as a $70 chiseler.

I really hope he stays the hell out of this area. I am quite confident that the day after the election he will take the lobbyest job that has been waiting for him.

20. Isn't Sanitorium being questioned about using PA money for
homeschooling his kids in Virginia? or something like that. I think in order to get some GOVERNMENT MONEY (don't you love a free market Republican always lookin' to be on the "dole")he had to declare a homestead in PA. But it looks like he wants to keep that claim and give up the $70. I think his parents help support him and his 75 children, as well as the good ole' USA.:hi:

22. That battle continues "PAY IT BACK RICK" from ACDC
ACDC=Allegheny County Democratic Party

You can read about the current status of this issue on their website -

Pay It Back Rick

PA residents - PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION AT THIS LINK.

The picture of T-Ricky's Virginia house is from our website, Santorum Cybergate

There is one error on the ACDC website, they say T-Ricky's Virginia home is worth $ 757,000 but actually it's now worth a cool million!

Edited on Wed Sep-27-06 10:48 PM by powergirl
Your website is great. I'd sign the petition if I lived in PA - but I live in Texas - yes I know.

I can't believe that Santorum's #1 story on his home page concerns Casey's eyebrows. Is Santorum obsessed with waxing and laser hair removal??? Maybe Sen. Santorum is overly concerned with his own physical appearance . . .

I couldn't copy the picture and post it here. But it would be pretty funny to show on DU - if it hasn't been posted already.

:applause:
