Hariri 'killed by suicide bomber' (Lebanon)
Al-Qaeda, and not Syria or Israel, could very well be the one behind the Hariri assassination. The same MO was used by Al-Qaeda in Somalia, as pointed out by BreakForNews in his post #16 titled G8 New World Order in this thread:

Rumsfeld favors U.S. military command for Africa

Hariri 'killed by suicide bomber'

Monday, 25 September 2006, 23:09 GMT 00:09 UK

A UN inquiry into the killing of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri has found new evidence that he was probably killed by a suicide bomber.

Its latest report says investigators believe a man who died in the February 2005 blast is likely to have detonated a truck bomb which killed Mr Hariri.

The report says new leads as to who was behind the attack in Beirut have been uncovered, but it does not elaborate.

Syria has denied involvement in the blast, in which 23 people died.

The report was delivered to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan on Monday by the inquiry's chief investigator, Belgian Serge Brammertz.

The document says a tooth found at the scene and believed to belong to the bomber had a distinctive crown, suggesting the attacker came from abroad, according to the Associated Press news agency.

It says investigators found 32 pieces of what are believed to be the bomber's remains, putting him between 20 and 25 years old.

1. What a disaster for President Bush's efforts for Syrian regime change.
Not good for US warmongers at all...

2. Al-Qaeda thrives in creating conflict among its rivals
The Hariri assassination did not benefit Syria at all, and it gave rise to fears of another civil war in Lebanon. The only one to benefit is one that would want to see the Christians, Sunis, and Shia fight one another.

3. Well I understand the US cynically exploiting the situation.
But such cynical calculations, which certainly gained the US a lot of support in Lebanon until uh... Israel... blew Lebanon up, tend to backfire at some point.

This is backfire in Bush's face. Because the UN was so eager to investigate on the assumption that Syria would ultimately be found responsible, this evidence carries particular exculpatory weight... because no one in the region will believe that Syria's secular intelligence services can get people to do suicide bombings.

4. How is this news?
This has been known from the very beginning.

"Shawkat, Syria's military intelligence chief, allegedly forced Adass to confess on a videotape two weeks before the assassination. But the suicide bomber was probably an Iraqi who thought he was killing Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi, a visitor in Beirut shortly before the bombing, the report said."
