Home Depot cutting 300 jobs at headquarters

ATLANTA, Aug 30 (Reuters) - Retailer Home Depot Inc. (HD.N: Quote, Profile, Research) on Wednesday said it would cut 300 jobs at its Atlanta headquarters, or about 5.6 percent of the location's total staff, as it shifts resources to invest in store improvements.

"We will need to reallocate our resources, and reprioritize, reduce and in certain cases, eliminate some initiatives managed from the Store Support Center," Chairman and CEO Bob Nardelli said in an internal announcement.

The home improvement industry leader earlier this month said it would spend $350 million on its stores in the second half to defend its market share amid signs that energy prices and a cooling U.S. housing market were crimping consumer spending.

1. i worked for HD and the Expo pre and post Nardelli, he has ruined the
company. Back in the day HD used to actually pay a decent wage and hire professionals in their fields to head dept. at the store level, you went to plumbing and the manager was a licensed plumber, same with electrical and so on, Nardelli got rid of all of that and switched most of the staff to part time and lowered the starting rate by a lot. As someone who worked for them for 7 years i would never work for them again and i never buy anything there.

That's what I call them.

Home Depot - Big Store, Lots of Stuff-No Service as compared with Lowe's, Big Store, Lots of Stuff, No Service, but Better Lighting.

3. I'm Sure This Has Nothing To Do With Housing Collapse.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. You won't EVER hear them say that. It would be too honest.

"We will need to reallocate our resources, and reprioritize, reduce and in certain cases, eliminate some initiatives managed from the Store Support Center,"

I will enjoy watching these companies suffer and downsize. Sorry for their employees who will get screwed, but hey....they had a good time while the housing boom fiasco lasted.

Perhaps if they cheerlead just a little longer, people might still believe that there is no bubble.

4. What are you talking about? . . .
Third paragraph of the article, third paragraph of the quoted text:

The home improvement industry leader earlier this month said it would spend $350 million on its stores in the second half to defend its market share amid signs that energy prices and a cooling U.S. housing market were crimping consumer spending.

Perhaps if you read the article, and didn't take such seeming joy in the economy going glum for so many, you wouldn't make such painfully irresponsible comments.

6. Re: Economy Going Glum For So Many....
There are so many frickin' MORONS in this country, that unfortunately, it's going to take the economy going completely in the toilet, before they BEGIN to realize there's a problem.

The fact is, people are caught up in their own la la la fantasy world, where money is free, credit cards and home equity loans are plentiful, and debts are just a means of getting by for another month.

You won't hear about problems from the Corporate Media Whores, and you Definitely won't hear it from the administration. Until people see and feel it, through their own well being, they're going to keep believing every piece of garbage they're fed.

So yes, I am looking forward to the collapse, and when it happens, I will be the first to look into the eyes of each Facist repub person I know and say proudly, I'm A Democrat, so I never voted for this economic catastrophe.

Got Equity?

8. So TWICE you ignore the evidence before your eyes . . .
and choose not to recognize that the very article you derisively criticize covers the very information you claim it ignores, yet somehow you feel warranted to call others morons.

I've read many recent articles about the present housing situation and its potential impact on the economy, in a wide range of publications, and I've heard that the problem has been discussed on many broadcast media programs, but because your range of experience is limited both by your ignorance and your willful myopia, everyone else is a moron deserving of economic catastrophe.

Must be nice, to live in such an insulated world. Does Mommy pay all the bills?

10. Bush's 'Made in the USA' Backdrop Hides 'Made in China' Labels

President Bush stands in front of boxes that are stamped Made in America as he addresses a group of local officials and small business owners at the JB Logistics shipping company in St. Louis, Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003. The boxes were actually 'Made in China' and the Bush PR team had covered over the China stamp with 'Made in U.S.A.'. (AP Photo/Charles Rex Arbogast)

Published on Tuesday, January 21, 2003 by the Associated Press

ST. LOUIS –– Someone went to great lengths to ensure the backdrop for President Bush's sales pitch Wednesday on his economic stimulus plan sent all the right messages – and none of the wrong.

Bush delivered his remarks from a warehouse floor at JS Logistics, a trucking, courier and warehouse business that provided a visual image for his argument that his proposal carries economy-boosting benefits for small businesses. The audience was flanked on all sides by piles of cardboard boxes – with additional piles in front of and behind his podium.

Each one of the hundreds of boxes had a piece of paper obscuring its "Made in China" label.
