Air America Radio Moves Flagship To WWRL/New York
Edited on Wed Aug-02-06 06:11 PM by Fighting Irish
(EDIT for better link)

A long-rumored change becomes reality as the liberal Talk network will make a move from its current home at WLIB/New York to crosstown Access.1 Communications-owned Urban Talk WWRL beginning on September 1. Air America Radio says the change represents a new strategic alliance between the two companies that will provide a long-term flagship in New York City for AAR's network programs.

"We are thrilled about our new partnership with Air America,” said Access.1 President/COO Chesley Maddox-Dorsey about the just announced deal. "It is important that we partner in offering the nation's largest radio market a strong, progressive voice."

No word yet on the fate of WWRL's current line-up of programs, including the nationally syndicated shows, Doug Stephan's Good Day, ABC Radio Network's Larry Elder, and Fox News Radio's Alan Colmes, along with local shows hosted by Sam Greenfield and Armstrong Williams.

1. Alan Colmes is on that station.
Wonder if they keep any of the old crew.

2. I hope it has better reception.
I can only get WLIB 1190 and it is not very good. Sometimes I can't get it to work at all.

22. WWRL has a weaker signal.
Especially at night.

6. It's leasing of time on a radio station
Edited on Wed Aug-02-06 05:34 PM by Fighting Irish
Similar to what they're doing now on WLIB. It's a common radio practice. Religious groups do it all the time.

Hell, Westwood One did it in the big markets when they started syndicating Bill O'Reilly's radio show. Probably still do.

4. It's another AM station, but it's definitely a stronger one
And if WLIB can go back to their old programming, everybody wins.

14. Money
The "graveyard" time slot is shunned by advertisers. So stations will do anything to increase ad revenue, even drastic format changes, despite popularity of shows.

such as use profanity when the situation calls for it.

15. As long as it's as strong as WABC
I can pick that up no problem, even here in Canada.

16. Not quite
Unfortunately, WWRL runs only 5KW at night, less than during the day (25KW). WLIB actually increases their power to 30KW at night from 10KW daytime. Radiation patterns are similiar (poor for most of us). WWRL is heard better in North Jersey during the day than WLIB but it gets lost in the clutter at night while WLIB has the better nighttime signal.

Not exactly an improvement.

17. You're right, I tried 1600 tonight - no good
Also, WABC is one of those "clear channel" stations, with a max of 50kW.

I've tried several times to get WLIB, even with my longwire antenna at home and it's fairly weak.

Edited on Wed Aug-02-06 07:16 PM by DesertRat
When I told her this news today, her reply was: "Well, Air America's 32 listeners can be happy until they are dropped by this station, too."

21. What the hell is it with these wingnuts?
I swear, the cons are the biggest bunch of whiny crybabies I've ever encountered. They can't even admit when they're wrong.

Case in point. I'm fighting off these mental midgets over at www.radio-info.com (News/Talk) about "progressive talk" (he gets in a real lather about that term). This one guy (who claims to never listen to AM talk radio - yeah right!) just won't shut up. He then tosses up George Soros' name, like he's Charles Manson or something.

I played my hand and used Richard Scaife and Sun Myung Moon, thinking that I finally ended this stupid arguement once and for all. Well now, he's back and making no sense whatsoever (typical).

I guess the old saying is true. Arguing on a message board is like the Special Olympics.

Here it is, for you pain aficionados:
