U.S. targeting employers who hire illegal immigrants
snip>
Wednesday, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff announced a voluntary program of "best practices" for employers to curb hiring of illegal immigrants.

"We are bringing a growing number of criminal prosecutions against unscrupulous employers, " Mr. Chertoff said.

"If the government is going to fully address the problem of illegal alien employment, it must partner with employers, educate them and provide them with the tools they need to develop a stable, legal workforce."

The new Homeland Security program also calls for employers to pay special attention to Social Security numbers and "no-match" letters that are issued when new hires provide numbers that don't match the government's database.

13. oh the gov is going to give them the tools to build a workforce?
WHAT KIND OF UN-MITIGATED BULLSHIT IS THAT?

since when is it the gub-a-mint's job to provide workers for industry? Corporate welfare again!

industry here's the rules:

DO NOT HIRE ILLEGAL ALIENS, it's --- ILLEGAL
AFTER THAN, IT's up to you to life your business up by the bootstraps and FIND legal workers
not getting any applicants? PAY MORE
still not finding qualified people? TRAIN PEOPLE THEN and pay them enough to make them want to stick around

IT's called the free market assholes. Will this mean raising your prices? Tough shit, it's called a free market don't like it? move to china ya friken communists.

14. You have got to love this mentality,
Border Patrol, Fails to do their job.
INS same as above
So the Government has failed to keep illegals from entering the country.
Capture and remove said Illegals Never going to happen.
So what to do now. I know, lets fine companies for hiring the outlaws.
Then what? we have 12 million + or - Illegal Immigrants that now can't find work. So will they go home? I doubt it, they will stay get welfare and health care that we all pay for, drive around in cars without a drivers license or insurance get in wrecks costing all of us more money and maybe our lives. Or worse, take to crime.
Fining an American citizen for hiring someone the government failed to do their job and keep out of this country should be a crime in itself. And who ever told the B.P. or the I.N.S. to stand down, and not deport these people to their country should be in Prison.

21. Border arrests down 45 percent
Just in time for november election

WASHINGTON — The number of illegal immigrants caught trying to sneak into the United States has dropped since President Bush ordered the military to help tighten the border, the head of the Border Patrol said Tuesday.
Officials surmise that part of the reason is that fewer people are trying to enter the country because they're discouraged by the increased enforcement.
Immigrant-rights advocates think the migrants may be crossing at more remote areas.
Whichever it is, Border Patrol chief David V. Aguilar reported a 45 percent decline in the number of people arrested along the U.S.-Mexican border, when comparing the 69 days before Bush's mid-May announcement with the 69 days after.
