President Bush Visits West Virginia
Posted 7/26/2006 04:57 PM
The Chief Executive is attending a private fundraiser

Story by Dave Kirby

... Among the headaches: the South Side Bridge was closed twice as the President traveled to and from a private fundraiser in South Hills.

Patriots for Peace had as many as 300 people joining the joint protest by their group and West Virginia-Citizen Action Group. Protesters held up sections of their Wall of Remembrance, which contains the names of Americans who died in Iraq.

After the demonstration, the protesters moved downtown at Davis Park for a beans and corn bread dinner. The price is $4.20 per couple. Couples who attend Congresswoman Shelly Moore Capito's benefit are expected to donate $4,200 -- the maximum allowed ...

City officials plan to bill the re-election campaign of Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, for some of the cost of providing police protection for the visit.

1. I can just imagine the traffic snarls through Charleston, WV
It can be tough getting through there on a good day, with 2 major freeways through the mountains channeled through that city. Damn glad I was not heading to the south this week.

2. I'm sure many of the people in West Virginia feel truly blessed
Much the same way that they'd feel blessed by a swarm of locusts or an outvreak of smallpox.

3. Has he checked out any of the mountains that were blown up for coal?
I'll bet they're not on his list of top places to visit.

5. He allegedly doesn't much like leaving familiar surroundings. There ..
.. was some press a few years back on * stepping off AF1 in exotic locales, walking around for ten or fifteen minutes, and then wanting to take off again. At the G8, he seemed to talk lots about how he needed to get back home. Some I'm guessing he spent most of his time in surroundings selected not to over-stimulate his ("Hey! This isn't my home! I wanna go home!") anxieties ...

7. He doesn't want to see how he's fucking up the world
with his short-sighted self-serving policies. He should go live in a homeless shelter for a week.

10. He only stayed at the fundraiser for one hour
Edited on Thu Jul-27-06 06:39 AM by Lasher
I'm thankful he didn't stink up our state for longer than the 2 hours and 46 minutes he was here. Air Force 1 touched down a 4 PM and took off at 6:46.

Members of West Virginia Patriots for Peace hold a banner on the South Side Bridge that lists the names of all the American military members killed in the Iraq war as President Bush’s motorcade drives past.

Congresswoman Shelly Moore Capito (R-WV 02) already had $1.1 million in cash on hand, compared to Democratic challenger Mike Callaghan's $25,913. Now thanks to Junior's visit, she has $1.6M. Callaghan can win, but he needs our help. If you could donate anything, whether it be $5 or $100 every bit helps. You can donate on his website via credit card.

12. Great pic Lasher!

Were you holding up the banner? Do you ever hold it up at lunchtime by the mall? If so I'll have to say hi sometime I work right near there.

President Bush visits Charleston for fundraiser (4:19 pm)
Dave Gustafson
Staff writer

President George W. Bush arrived in Charleston at 4 p.m. Friday for a private fundraiser for U.S. Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va.
Air Force One touched down at Yeager Airport at 4 p.m. Bush and Capito got off the plane and were greeted by Gen. Allen Tackett, head of the state’s National Guard.

(snipping)

People lined the motorcade route along Greenbrier Street and Kanawha Boulevard. Protestors outnumbered supporters until the motorcade got into South Hills. (South Hills is where the fundraiser was held.)

Some of the signs read “How Many More Bodies?”, “Warmonger” and “Thank God For Term Limits.” Some Bush-Cheney campaign signs were also visible.

11. Capito's Challenger Dave Callahan had a $42 a couple fundraiser

Open to the public on the East End. I wanted to go but I had to do some stuff after work.

He is outgunned money wise but he has a decent shot at taking her seat.
