County Board denies Ricketts' property valuation protest

BY ROBYNN TYSVER

WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

On the eve of being rejected by the Douglas County Board, Pete Ricketts defended his decision to protest his home valuation, saying it was his right as a taxpayer.

The Republican U.S. Senate candidate said Thursday that he had no regrets about the timing of his protest - four months before the fall election in which he hopes to unseat Democrat Sen. Ben Nelson.

"A lot of people protest their property valuation. I'm not alone," Ricketts said.

Without comment, the Douglas County Board today denied Ricketts' request to lower his Omaha home's valuation to $900,000 - about $300,000 less than what he paid for it seven years ago.

Ricketts, who had expected the decision, said he would accept the board's decision.

1. Damn, that is one guy who is so lucky that ugly is not a capital offense.
I know that you shouldn't judge people by their looks, but he's creepy. And his commercials are so phony that they're funny. He's just an ordinary guy to hear him tell it.

That's why he's trying to get his million dollar plus house devalued to nine hundred thousand.
