Pot church takes a hit
PIMA — The Church of Cognizance, which has quietly operated here since 1991, has an unusual tenet — its worshippers deify and use marijuana as part of their faith.
Until federal authorities charged them with possessing 172 pounds of their leafy green sacrament earlier this year, church founders Dan and Mary Quaintance say they smoked, ate or drank marijuana daily as a way of becoming more spiritually enlightened.

1. But the Supreme Court just ruled in favor of an Ayahuasca church....
Why doesn't that precedent apply in this case?

13. You are right about SC ruling.
However, government don't care what SC ruled. Far as they're concern, law don't mean anything.

9. The ruling may have applied to this one church.
That may have been spelled out in the majority opinion.

3. Pot is meant for the truly poor, so that they can harvest the poppy
fields for the regional warlord. Then they can make and sell heroin dirt cheap, which the BFEE deals in, for a slice of the profits. Pot is a political drug and would mean peace is more powerful then war. Can't make money on peace.

7. You know what would be interesting to see?

Genetically engineered e. Coli bacteria that release THC, and spread through the entire human population of the planet.

We'd be a peaceful planet, but everyone would perpetually have the munchies, and we'd need robot-controlled mass-transit to get anywhere.

Oh my gawd... did I just say something that's gonna make me a "credible threat" to The Miami FBI?

This is a satirical riff, by the way.

18. Reminds me of a story I heard once
Edited on Sun Jul-09-06 08:58 PM by TheWraith
The US military was experimenting with hallucenogens, specifically LSD, as a potential nonlethal chemical weapon, on the theory that you could deploy it against enemy infantry and effectively combat-neutralize them without killing anyone. To test the effects of LSD, they were giving it to soldiers who had volunteered, but they had serious problems with this--once they'd given a soldier a dose of LSD, the first thing the guy wanted to do was leave the Army. :)

And it may make them more "spiritully enlightened," but it's done nothing for their fashion sense:

Dan and Mary Quaintance still insist they're going to fix their car "any day now." That was four cars ago.

5. Spiritual enlightenment and fashion sense are opposites really
So this is hardly a surprise. Same with interest in cars.

6. The difference between this and that other church
was that the other church didn't diefy the usage of the drugs they did, they just used it as a means to get closer to their diety. But its still fucked up that this particular church was punished....that speaks more to the fact that i believe pot should be legal....these people are just as full of shit as any other religous group.

Marijuana laws are so conservative. I don't understand why the government doesn't legalize it.

On edit: Nevermind.

Section 1. After one year from the ratification of this article the manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors within, the importation thereof into, or the exportation thereof from the United States and all territory subject to the jurisdiction thereof for beverage purposes is hereby prohibited.

I guess as long as you were drinking for God, it was okay.
