Sen McCain warns of 'irrational exuberance' on Iraq
http://today.reuters.com/News/CrisesArticle.aspx?storyId=B523045

LONDON, June 20 (Reuters) - Republican Sen. John McCain warned the White House on Tuesday against being overly optimistic the death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi will turn the tide in Iraq and said he believed more U.S. troops were needed.

"I think that some of their optimism is understandable, but I hope that it doesn't turn into irrational exuberance because ... it is still very long, very hard, very tough," McCain told the Financial Times in an interview.

American officials have hailed the death of the leader of al Qaeda in Iraq in a U.S. air strike on June 7 as a major victory in the war against insurgents.

President George W. Bush, who visited Iraq on June 13 for only the second time since the start of the war in 2003, said he was optimistic fresh intelligence from raids on insurgents would "disrupt their operations."

But since Zarqawi's death his group has named a successor and Iraq has been hit by multiple daily car bombings that have killed dozens of people. An al Qaeda-linked group has also said it kidnapped two U.S. soldiers missing since Friday.

20. Should this exhuberance result in
missing military members being killed as a giving-the-finger response to Bush's giddiness, McCain would still be wrapped around Bush like a bedside teddybear.

3. "Irrational exuberance"?? The WH may go off in fantasy land,
but the American people are not likely to buy the crap that continues to roll down from on high.

18. The only people showing "irrational exuberance" over al-Zarqawi...
... have been totally irrational all along, and McCain is wasting his breath on them.

4. I myself have been attempting to restrain my exuberance
Lest it become irrational.

And stories such as this add fuel to my irrationality:

The single-storey Al-Tub al-Adli morgue, whose nondescript appearance belies the horrors within, has become synonymous with the seemingly unstoppable violence that has turned Baghdad into the most frightening city on earth.

It is here that bodies from the nightly slaughter are dumped each morning. The stench of decaying flesh, mingled with disinfectant, hits you at the checkpoint 100 yards away.

Each corpse tells a different story about the terrors of Iraq. Some bodies are pocked with holes inflicted by torturers with power drills. Some show signs of strangulation; others, with hands tied behind the back, bear bullet wounds. Many are charred and dismembered.

5. The whole Iraq war...
has been an exercise in irrational exuberance -- that's the name of the game in our foreign policy ... irrational exuberance mixed with twisted, underhanded intentions.

7. McCain should concentrate on his own
"irrational exuberance" like when he hugged Junior Bush. When he gets done thinking about that, he could think about being irrationaly exuberant sharing his birthday cake with Bush while people were drowning in their attics.

12. "Irrational exuberance"???
Not even the freeps are exuberant over this ongoing disaster. If there's one thing Israel and the west should have learned by now, it's that assasinating a leader doesn't stop an insurgency.

16. Maybe he was talking about the memo from our Embassy
leaked to the Post -- about their Iraqi employees fears for their lives and wondering what arrangements there would be for them in case WE HAVE TO EVACUATE.

He makes me so ill I don't really bother listing to his gibberish anymore. What ever * wants McCain to do, he does. No questions asked.
