Maoists to join Nepal government
The Nepalese government is to dissolve parliament and set up an interim government that will include the country's Maoist rebels.

The move was announced in the capital, Kathmandu, after landmark talks between rebel leader Prachanda and Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala.
...
It says that the Maoists - who control most of Nepal's rural areas - have also agreed to dismantle their "people's government" once the interim government is in place.
...
"To conduct the elections to a constituent assembly without any fear, both sides agreed to request the United Nations to help manage both sides' weapons and monitor them," the joint statement said.

I think this is Good News. I hope that both sides realise they agree that the main thing they both want is an end to the autocratic monarchy, and that they can stay talking to each other.

1. Maoists
have a bad habit of ruling through fear. Hopefully these guys really are letting democracy take place. If so, they will probably come out with a left wing anti-imperialist coalition in charge of the government which is something I can strongly get behind!!

3. I hope it's good news.
Don't personally see a reason for optimism or pessimism, but I can still hope.

It's a necessary move, and could quite well be a thoroughly good thing.

"Peace, peace, and there is no peace" is the horrible alternative, but I'm not going to rule it out. Don't trust totalitarians of any faith or ideology. Their cause is often higher than principle, and their goal is too frequently the underpinnings of their honor.

I doubt the main thing the pro-democracy crowd wanted was an end to autocratic monarchy; I figure that's just quick phrasing. There are surely worse things than autocratic monarchies. I hope Kerensky didn't just invite the Bolsheviks in.
