Bush Takes on Terror War Criticism in Ad
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=536&ncid=536&e=4&u=/ap/20031121/ap_on_el_pr/politics_of_war

<snip>
WASHINGTON - If you're tough on President Bush (news - web sites), you're soft on terrorism. Denounce the Iraq (news - web sites) war, and you're retreating from terrorists.

That's the message the White House and its political allies want Americans to get from the Republican Party's first television commercial of the 2004 campaign. The ad, airing briefly in Iowa and perhaps other early voting states, sets the tone for what is certain to be a bitter, election-year debate as both parties seek political gain from the war on terror.

The commercial shows Bush delivering the last State of the Union address as criticisms flash across the screen. "Some are now attacking the president for attacking the terrorists," reads one charge. Another says: "Some calls for us to retreat, putting our national security in the hands of others."

Democratic presidential hopefuls, including some who supported the Iraq war, are second-guessing Bush's preemptive attack on Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)'s regime and U.S. homeland security policies. They hope the daily dose of death from Iraq turns what has been Bush's greatest political strength — his fight against terror — into a weakness

1. Here we go... the old "with us or against us" crap...
Dear Quasident Bush;

Show me the proof that Iraq was an imminent threat. Show me the WMD, and maybe... just maybe I'll give you the benefit of the doubt (although THAT is highly unlikely)...

2. We should get move-on to do the same commercial
with the death tallies over time flashing across the screen, followed by all the lies given as reasons for us to go to war...

5. My Gods!
The very week the Pentagon cuts the legs out from under this Iraq/Alqaeda canard, he goes right on spouting it, knowing that he
is already being made a liar by his own military.

I wonder if airline level security applies when Rummy is in the same room with Rove, anymore? They are outing each other's lies in public.
This civil action will be won by Rove, as Rummys numbers are lower.
That means Rice will get the prize... the stinking toxic mess that Rummy, Perle, Wolfie, etc have handed her. They are all squatting over it now, in ways that will be a poison pill for Republicans for 2 maybe 3 election cycles.

8. The Hidden message, as I read it...
The hidden message of this GOP ad, as I read it:

"Vote for George W. Bush or you are a terrorist."

I haven't seen the ad yet. Just read the description above. Maybe it's different when it's seen as a whole?

10. Exactly
Give that DUer a cigar!

It isn't even subtle. It's more in-your-face my-way-or-the-highway rhetoric from Bush.

I saw the commercial on CNN with Judy (GOP) Woodruff. She never questioned the obvious. When and by whom will this be questioned?

9. Clark: "They stole the election in 2000"
"I'm not going to let them steal the concept of patriotism like they stole the election in 2000."

Wow. Testify!
