NYT/AP: Reid, at YearlyKos, Calls for More Intelligence Oversight
Reid Calls for More Intelligence Oversight
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: June 10, 2006

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Americans won't be fooled by future intelligence failures if Congress will enact stiffer reporting requirements for the president and the intelligence community, Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid said Saturday.

Reid, in prepared remarks for the YearlyKos Convention of bloggers in Las Vegas, said his proposed legislation is critical as the Bush administration steps up its diplomacy with Iran.

The convention is billed as the first-ever national meeting of the online progressive community.

Reid said Democrats will take new steps to hold senior Bush administration officials accountable for their statements on Iran, similar to their fight to hold them accountable for their statements about the Iraq war.

''All of us as Americans need to review how the Bush Administration cherry-picked and hyped the case for war with Iraq to sell it to Congress and the American people, so we can make sure it never happens again,'' Reid said....

2. They invited a right winger to the progressive "yearlykos"?
Hmm..

PNAC boys saying they want the dems to win in '06, and other things make me wonder.

3. I wonder if Reid is aware of how disatisfied many in the blogosphere are
with the Democratic party. I just wonder. Did anyone call him on anything at the yearlyKos, or was that a no no--you know not politically correct in that atmosphere.

This convention is a good thing if it serves the progressive comminity; it has not been done before. I hope it does not go the way of the cocktail weenied circuit and does not succumb to hype and sell but stays true to truth telling and does not turn into another rah rah, support who I say. Question everything. Somehow once fame and fortune enter the scene, things seem to ineveitably change, I think.

Anyhow, whoever planned and orchestrated this event deserves credit as being the first of it's kind and it has been reported in some MSM.
